The Friends of the Tysons-Pimmit Library are active supporters of their library. Our volunteers give generously of their time and talent to make our library a better place to visit. We especially favor programs and other activities that encourage children and their parents/caregivers to fully use library services.
The Friends provide funding for programs and materials requested by our branch manager and for other countywide programs. Samples of Friends' funding include: ESL programs, children's programs, popular adult fiction and nonfiction, the Friends Scholarship Fund and 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten administered by the Fairfax Library Foundation, the periodical collection, eBooks, volunteer appreciation and community open house events, and design and native plant landscaping. The Friends also arrange care of the flowers and trees planted around the library.
Friends Membership
To join the Friends of the Tysons-Pimmit Library, please pick up a membership brochure at the circulation desk during library hours or email tysonslibraryfriends@gmail.com. An individual Friends membership is $5 (May 1 to April 30). The Tysons Library Friends actively recruit volunteers to assist with our activities. Volunteers are especially needed to arrange boxes in preparation for the book sale, to staff the quarterly sales, and to pack boxes after the sales. Community service hours are available for middle school and high school students. For additional information or to volunteer with the Friends, call 703-790-4031 or email them at tysonslibraryfriends@gmail.com.
Friends Meeting Dates
The annual membership and board meetings are in May. Other meetings are scheduled as needed.
Book Sales
The Tysons Library Friends sponsor large quarterly book sales in March, June, September and December in the meeting rooms of the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library. An ongoing book sale is located in the library lobby during open hours. You can pay for items using the three kiosks located in the library. For large purchases, make a special appointment by calling 703-790-4031 or 703-338-3307.
Donation Process
Donations of saleable materials are always appreciated. Donations may be placed in the canvas bin between the two sets of front doors during library hours. Please do not leave donations outside the library when the library is closed. Donations of more than a few boxes per day are welcome by appointment only: 703-790-4031 or tysonslibraryfriends@gmail.com. The Friends of the Tysons-Pimmit Library is a 501(c)3 organization so your donation is tax deductible, but we cannot provide a valuation for your donation.
Please no books with highlights, underlining, torn pages, water, mildew, animal, or smoke damage.
Donations sought include books of all types (children’s and adult fiction and nonfiction) as well as music CDs, videos, and recorded books. We welcome recent textbooks. Please do not donate condensed books; encyclopedias; and National Geographic or other magazines unless they are current year.
Donate your current best seller. The staff at the library has lists of books with lots of holds, which they look for among our donations. When listed books are found, they get added to the copies circulating throughout the library system. We also try to find replacement copies of damaged books.
If you need pickup of books and media from estates or large quantities, please call 703-790-4031 or 703-338-3307 to make arrangements.
