2019 Community Survey Results
A community survey was conducted in the summer of 2019. This survey helped to highlight community goals and priorities and helped form the basis of the guiding visioning principles.

Guiding Visioning Principles
To begin a community dialogue on Lorton’s vision for the future, an online community survey and a community meeting were utilized to collect ideas and opinions from Lorton area residents and visitors. These ideas were summarized into themes describing the desirable features of Lorton today and in the future. The Visioning Guiding Principles were drafted as a final product to be shared with and solicit further feedback from the community. The Task Force approved the Visioning Guiding Principles on February 24, 2020, with one principle, 6C, remaining under discussion.
Lorton Market Assessment
A market assessment report was conducted for the Lorton Study Area by consultants. A draft market findings overview was presented on January 27, 2022, at the Lorton Visioning Community Workshop.
Framework Maps
- A set of framework maps was developed by staff to illustrate the guiding visioning principles and to start a conversation about priorities for the future vision within the Lorton Focus Area. These were presented at the November 8, 2021, Task Force meeting.
- The initial draft set of framework maps was refined through a process led by consultants and was presented at the May 23, 2022, Task Force meeting to discuss and gather feedback.
