Want to try something new but don't want to spend a lot of money on something you may not even like? Seeking a space to connect with others who enjoy similar hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, arts, crafts and more? Look no further, Fairfax County Public Library's Maker Labs are perfect for you!

Maker Labs are special spaces, currently located in three of FCPL’s branches, that invite visitors to discover, explore, create and learn about a variety of different topics. Most of the programming and activities held in the Maker Labs fall under the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Technology, or STEAM, umbrella, meaning Maker Labs are a great place for visitors of all ages to embrace their curiosity. Best of all? Everything is free!

As of July 2025, FCPL’s three Maker Labs are at Herndon Fortnightly Library, Pohick Regional Library and Sherwood Regional Library. Each lab has its own unique flare and may be better suited to some activities more so than others, so here is a quick breakdown of what the locations offer. Please note that the availability of programs and resources is subject to change.
