Digital Equity and Inclusion

Digital equity ensures opportunities for Fairfax County residents to participate and engage in a connected community. The ability to access, understand and use digital tools is essential for many tasks in modern life, including applying for jobs, paying bills, enjoying recreational activities, completing homework, staying informed and connecting with government/community services.

In 2024, the county developed a five-year Digital Equity Action Plan to build and improve upon existing efforts to close the digital divide in Fairfax County through collaboration, coordination and inclusive community engagement. Free Internet Access

Internet access is a necessity for anyone seeking employment, adult education, current events, and connecting with family and friends.

High speed internet is available free at each Fairfax County Public Library location. Most branches have parking lot WiFi access during operating hours, excluding City of Fairfax and Herndon branches.

Internet Use in the Library

Chromebook + WiFi Hotspot Connect Kits

Fairfax County Public Library is pleased to offer Chromebook computers and Wi-Fi Hotspots for borrowing by the public. Chromebooks can be checked out at any Library branch (except Access Services).

Chromebooks support the Google suite of productivity tools, including Docs, Sheets and Slides. These tools can access Microsoft Office files, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Library Computer Lending Program

Library Equity Access Pass (LEAP) for Students

FCPL has partnered with the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) system to provide all students with a virtual FCPL library account that allows up to three checkouts and does not accrue fines.

This program ensures FCPS students have access to FCPL materials even without a traditional library card or if that card has been blocked due to fines.
