The Friends of the Herndon Fortnightly Library is a small but very active group that donates many hours of service and time to help the library and its community. Besides maintaining the library's ongoing book sale, the Friends often volunteer in the Circulation Department on a regular basis. It is a generous group and provides financial assistance to the branch whenever needed, from sponsoring children's and community programs to purchasing extra items for the library. The Friends of the Herndon Fortnightly Library are always looking for new members interested in special projects to assist the library

Mission Statement

The purpose of this organization will be to promote interest in the Library; to encourage the public's use of this Library and its resources; to receive and encourage gifts and donations to this Library; to support this Library in areas which lack sufficient funding from normal appropriations; and to cooperate as appropriate with other libraries and library volunteer associates to promote the interests of libraries in general.

Accomplishments

The Friends of the Herndon Fortnightly Library provide not only volunteer hours working in the Circulation Department, but also financial assistance to the branch, the community and the system.

For example: the Friends have donated funds for programs such as the Summer Reading Program; helped the branch in purchasing items not always available from regular County funds; or provided assistance as needed during community activities sponsored by the Library.

Book Sales

The Friends of the Herndon Fortnightly Library organize the library's ongoing and pop-up book sales. Information on upcoming sales will be posted at the Library.

Donation Process

The Friends of the Herndon Fortnightly Library gladly accept donations of used BOOKS in very good, saleable condition. Proceeds from all Book Sales benefit the Herndon Library.

Donations can be brought to the library during operating hours. Materials may be left on the LOWER level, just inside the doors. Please follow posted signage! (Donations may not be accepted prior to sales events.)

We regret that we are unable to accept the following materials: 

• Soiled or damaged materials of any kind.
• Magazines.
• Textbooks.
• VHS tapes, audio cassettes, CDs or vinyl records.
• Items with missing parts.
• Medical or finance items more than 3 years old.
• Reference materials more than 3 years old.
