Church’s Resource Center Keeps Pantries Full
During the COVID crisis in 2020, the team at Fairfax Church noticed pantries were running low on items. They made a call to its congregants for support. The response birthed the idea of the Resource Center, which officially opened its doors in 2021. Since then, the Resource Center has increased its funding sources and, as a result, has served 1,805 adults and 2,170 children, some of whom are Domestic Violence Action Center clients.
The Resource Center is largely run by volunteers and three staff members. It offers clothes for children from infants to 18 years of age, diapers, toiletries, kitchen essentials, etc. They also have what they call a "microwave only" bag for individuals who are unable to cook. The Center also partners with local nonprofits for weekly distributions at Fairmount Gardens.
The Fairfax Church Resource Center provides resources to social service professionals who work directly with families in need of immediate support. Staff can refer clients via the online application. Learn more about the Resource Center.
