Meet Montgomery “Monty” Johnson, DSVS Hotline and Court volunteer!

Six Things to Know About Monty

people holding hands graphic1. I have been volunteering for a total of 12 years, 18 months with Fairfax County.

2. I volunteer to give something back to people in need. I do it with this program because I think my skillset fits with it.

3. The most challenging part is hearing the stories from victims. My biggest fear is doing more damage to victims.

4. The most rewarding thing about volunteering is helping and seeing victims on a path to safety.

5. I have learned so much about domestic and sexual violence and the resources available to victims [during my time with DSVS]. I now know the good and not so good parts of DSVS as they relate to services offered. I have learned how kind and caring the staff is. I have also learned that Virginia laws need a lot of work to better help victims.

6. My advice to those considering volunteering is to search in their souls and then do it. Volunteering with DSVS is both rewarding and heart wrenching at the same time.
