Customers are provided with one 95-gallon trash cart and one 95-gallon recycling cart per residence.
To report a damaged or missing trash or recycling cart, please complete the form below.
For damaged carts, please leave the cart at the curb on your regular collection day so our repair technician can access it.

Ninety percent (90%) of residents and businesses in Fairfax County receive trash and recycling service from a private collection company. Residents are billed by the collection company or pay via their Homeowner Association fees. Please contact your provider directly regarding services. Trash and recycling will be collected between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Staff will empty county provided containers and return them to the curb or street line. All trash and recycling must be placed at the curb inside the county container by 6 a.m. on your collection day.
Please do not report a missed collection until late in the day. In many cases crews are simply delayed.
Report missed collections the following business day by 4:30 p.m. If you set your trash and recycling out after 6 a.m. and it is not collected, please hold the debris until your next collection day or take it to one of the county disposal facilities.

Fairfax County provides vacuum leaf collection services in some areas. Not all county collection customers are subscribers. To find out if your residence is served, view the Vacuum Leaf Collection Service Area map.
Yard waste is the organic waste generated by yard and lawn care and includes leaves, grass trimmings, shrub and tree trimmings. Yard waste does not include soil, mulch, sod, stumps, whole trees, large branches or limbs or clean-up from storm damage.
From March 1 – December 24 yard waste must be placed at the curb separately for collection.

In the interest of safety, trash and recycling collection may be suspended in severe weather or in emergency situations. For emergency and severe weather status updates, visit Customer Notices or call 703-802-3322, TTY 711.
Regular trash, recycling, yard waste and special collection services are provided on all holidays except Christmas Day. The Customer Service Center is closed in observance of all county holidays.
