Apply below for your preferred location. Counselors will be placed with camps that fit their interests, skills, or where the need is greatest for the site. Categories include variety, sports, arts & crafts, nature, history, and other support positions.
Under the supervision of the Camp Director and full-time center staff, the Camp Counselor is responsible for the overall program planning and implementation of the camp. This includes field trips, pool activities and other special events that are part of the program. The Camp Counselor shall adhere to all guidelines as outlined in the Camp Counselor Handbook. The Camp Counselor is responsible for organizing and maintaining all camp equipment, supplies and camp areas. Staff is responsible for the overall safety of the children in camp. The Camp Counselor is responsible for communicating with parents throughout the week. Staff is responsible for preparing and distributing activity calendars (or syllabus) on the first day of camp and an activity summary at the end of camp. The Camp Counselor is responsible for documenting all accidents, injuries and incidents and reporting child abuse/neglect to a supervisor. Camp Counselors are required to supervise CIT’s and encourage their leadership and participation. Camp Counselors are also responsible for complying with and adhering to county, agency and state standards and regulations.
Under supervision of full-time center staff, the Camp Director assists in the planning and implementation of the program. The Camp Director shall assist full-time staff in preparing staff schedules, including extended care coverage. Camp Directors shall prepare and maintain files for staff, campers, and CIT’s. Camp Directors will be trained and responsible for administering medications to campers as directed on the authorization form and ensure proper documentation. In addition, the Camp Director serves as the liaison between counselors and site staff, between the camp and parents, and between the site and Youth Services and Social Services (when required). The Camp Director is responsible for ensuring all Virginia Department of Social Services standards and FCPA regulations are adhered to and in compliance for licensure. In addition, the Camp Director will assist counselors with maintaining equipment and camp areas. The Camp Director is responsible for ensuring field trip plans are confirmed and should assist counselors in planning activities as needed. The Camp Director is also required to make sure staff is properly completing forms and documents for accidents, injuries or incidents and reporting child abuse/neglect to a supervisor. The Camp Director will make phone calls to parents when necessary and assist staff when disciplinary situations arise. Camp Directors will communicate with parents before and during camp in a written form (email, notes home, etc.). Camp Directors should oversee CIT’s, which includes making sure they are following their task sheets and evaluating them at the end of camp.
