Internships with Frying Pan Farm Park

Title: Program Marketing Intern – Frying Pan Farm Park

Description: Work with experienced marketing staff to assist in development and implementation a broad range of print and electronic marketing products for programs, camps, classes, concerts and park news at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon, VA.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Edit and create fliers and other graphic marketing pieces
  • Distribute marketing material to identified outlets
  • Staff Summer concerts series on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evening
  • Research potential new marketing outlets
  • Analyze the reach and penetration of marketing tools after promotions end 
  • Assist with development and implementing marketing plans

Requirements: College senior of graduate student in marketing, communication, parks and rec, or a related field. Microsoft Office experience and knowledge. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work alone and in a team setting.

Schedule: 20 hours per week. If working a summer internship, Wednesday morning and Thursday evening shifts are required. All summer interns are required to work the first full weekend of August to support a large special event.   The position is unpaid, but the Park Authority will work with the student on necessary paperwork if seeking course credit and a written letter of recommendation will be provided at successful completion of the program. Orientation will be provided to interns during their first few weeks on the job and a meeting with senior managers and the Park Authority Board will be scheduled for an evening in July.

Title: Equestrian Marketing Intern - Frying Pan Farm Park

Description: The Frying Pan Farm Park Equestrian Center is looking for an equestrian savvy individual who is eager to learn about the day-to-day responsibilities and operational skills required to maintain a large scale equestrian training center, as well as, learning how to host and manage large scale equestrian events ( Rated horse shows, breed inspections, clinics etc.) This internship position works directly under the FCPA Equestrian Facilities Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with answering equestrian customer inquiries via phone, email and in person
  • Help coordinate volunteer staff for FCPA Horse Shows and Equestrian Events
  • Assist the FCPA Equestrian Facilities Manager with a regular equine facility maintenance plan and implementation at Frying Pan Farm Park Equestrian Center
  • Act as admin assistant/ secretary for the Equestrian Office
  • Assist in dealings with outside contractors, vendors and or consultants for capital improvement projects
  • Supports FCPA Equestrian Facilities Manager with tasks as needed

Requirements: Motivated! This job requires some very long days, especially for events, candidate must be willing and able to work these days with a smile and a “can-do” attitude. Equine experience required. Excellent written communication skills- English/Writing/Marketing majors welcome. Basic Microsoft Office experience and knowledge. Desire to learn Equestrian Facility Management. Desire to learn about Equestrian Event Management. An analytical and critical thinker will be a success in this role. Ability to work in a fast paced environment—multi-tasking is key! The ideal candidate is adaptable and flexible and knows how to set priorities.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working or volunteering at equestrian events. Barn Management experience. Full time working student experience. Cross disciplinary experience.

Title: Education Intern (Camps and Tours) - Frying Pan Farm Park

Description: Assist in public programming, camps, and giving public tours. Interns gain a well-rounded experience in many areas, including: researching local history, developing tour programs, creating docent manuals, producing educational materials, and writing for newsletters and other print pieces.

Requirements: College senior or graduate student in museum studies, American studies, material culture, history, or closely related field.  Must have working, knowledge of computer operations, preferably Microsoft Office Products such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel, and internet search skills are a plus. You must be currently enrolled in a degree seeking program.

Part-time:  20-30 hours per week (Summer); June – August

Title: Museum Collections Technician (Collections Care and Research) - Frying Pan Farm Park

Title: Museum Collections Technician (Collections Care and Research) - Frying Pan Farm Park

Description: Students will work alongside professional staff and have a hands-on opportunity to learn and perform basic museum collections stewardship and collections management practices, such as research, cataloging and accessioning of historic objects, care and housing of historic objects, conducting inventory and environmental monitoring. Students also may assist with the design, development and layout of exhibits and written projects such as a portion of an Integrated Pest Management Plan, and Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Plan.

Special Projects
• Organize objects in outdoor barn, storage trailers, mezzanine and Kidwell House
• Help plan and develop new exhibits with objects on site
• Routine housekeeping

Requirements: College senior or graduate student in museum studies, American studies, material culture, history, historic preservation, or closely related field.

Part-time: 15 - 20 hours per week; During any 3 month period
