Join the Fairfax County Park Authority in celebrating National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the John C. and Margaret K. White Gardens Horticultural Park (White Gardens).
Since 1994, National Public Lands Day has celebrated the thousands of volunteers who help to preserve, restore and improve America’s public lands each year. In that spirit, the Park Authority will host a community “open park” event to celebrate and learn more about White Gardens and upcoming opportunities for community involvement to preserve this amazing park.
Originally acquired in 1999, this lovely 13-acre park is home to a rich habitat with choice overstory trees, native plant communities, a naturalistic native meadow, rhododendron collection, walking trails and more. Staff will lead garden walks throughout the morning highlighting the many natural features of the park and provide information about ways in which community volunteers will play a huge role in the park’s preservation.
John C. and Margaret K. White Gardens Horticultural Park is located at 6722 Princess Anne Lane, Falls Church. For information about the event, please reach out to Judith.Zatsick@fairfaxcounty.gov or David.Alexander@fairfaxcounty.gov.
