Circuit Court Alert:
October 8, 2024
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the Fairfax Circuit Court is proud to recognize and honor the outstanding contributions of individuals who have made significant strides in the judicial system. These individuals have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations of Hispanic legal professionals.
Earlier this year, Chris Falcon became the first Latino to become Clerk of Court. With this accomplishment, he joined the ranks of other notable "first-time" Latinos in the Courthouse.
Elected in 2017, Judge David Bernhard has made a lasting impact as the first Hispanic judge on the Circuit Court and the first immigrant from Latin America elected to any Circuit Court and the Court of Appeals. His former clerk, Claudia Lopez, served as our court's first female Hispanic law clerk.
In 2021, Judge Melissa Sanchez Cardoce made history as the first Hispanic Juvenile & Domestic Relations (JDR) District Court Judge in Fairfax County. She also shares the title of first Hispanic subjudge with Kristina Cruz Skidmore.
In 2023, Raymond Obregon achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first male Hispanic subjudge.
In 2024, Camila Alfonzo Meza also broke new ground as the first Latina PIO for the Circuit Court.
These individuals have not only shattered glass ceilings but have also demonstrated unwavering dedication to justice and equality. Their accomplishments serve as a source of inspiration for all legal community members, and their contributions have enriched the diversity and inclusivity of our judicial system. The Fairfax Circuit Court is proud to also highlight the diversity of our staff and recognize their contributions to providing language access and excellent service to our constituents. As we commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor and celebrate the indelible impact of these remarkable individuals and reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable legal environment for all.
