We appreciate your membership and support of the Oakmont Rec Center and are announcing that we are preparing to undertake several maintenance projects and improvements that will enhance the building’s operation and user experience.
We have taken care to plan each of these projects to minimize any impacts of the work on our patrons. For this purpose, the Oakmont Rec Center will be closed from Monday, August 19 through Saturday, September 14.
Work will include the following:
- Natatorium — Exhaust system/duct work, dehumidification installation preparation, painting, recaulking/sealing the atrium and roof replacement
- Upper Lobby — Exhaust system/duct work, ceiling repairs, painting, restroom upgrades, lighting and shelving updates and furniture updates
- Lower Level — Ceiling and lighting updates, painting, shelving updates, locker room upgrades including ADA-operated doors, wall updates and wood floor refinishing
- Roof* — Replace roof for the entire facility, replace skylights, recaulk atrium, replace rooftop units and install waterproofing
- Boiler Room — Replace heating boilers and expand HVAC control system
*Notes: Some roof work began on June 4, but this will not disrupt access to the Rec Center. The new natatorium scoreboard is expected to be installed in the fall 2024 after the facility has reopened.
Please note that the Oakmont Golf Center, Oakmont Mini Golf and the Oakmont Farmers Market (which operates 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays) will remain open.
We recognize that this closure may cause an inconvenience to many of our members. During the closure, Rec Center members are invited to use any of Fairfax County Park Authority’s other Rec Centers including the nearby Spring Hill Rec Center (1239 Spring Hill Road, McLean) and Providence Rec Center (7525 Marc Drive, Falls Church). Oakmont Rec Center members who want to pause their memberships should visit the front desk before closure begins or submit a request to pause membership online.
