Park Operations Virtual Job Fair

The Park Operations Division (POD) is a Fairfax County Government organization that provides maintenance services to parks throughout the county. Employees in POD are employed by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) and are held to the highest standard of performance. The FCPA was awarded the 2019 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration.

The POD has many vacant positions for positive, energetic, motivated and friendly people. Minimum requirements for all appointees are as follows: Valid driver’s license. Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and work outdoors in variable weather conditions performing physical labor. Ability to traverse uneven ground. Ability to bend, twist, turn, stand, sit and stoop. Ability to operate motor vehicle. Ability to operate grounds equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations. Park Operations Maintenance Worker

Park Operations Maintenance Worker

Salary: $16.50 per hour, no benefits
Hours: Weekend and holiday work starting in mid-March and ending in mid-November consisting of 16-24 hours per week.

Now hiring for the 2023 season! Responsible for keeping park property including but not limited to athletic fields, grounds, and picnic rental shelter clean and safe for patrons. Collecting trash from receptacles and or grounds then transporting for disposal, inspecting restrooms and other facilities. Be efficient in the order sites are visited and with the routes taken from site to site. Sites with high priority should be visited more frequently and be given greater attention. Inspect facilities each shift and document findings. Interacts with public to provide information about facilities and enforce the park rules.

Requirements: Valid driver’s license. Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and work outdoors in variable weather conditions performing physical labor.  Ability to traverse uneven ground. Ability to bend, twist, turn, stand, sit, and stoop.  Ability to operate motor vehicle. Maintenance Worker ***Benefits Eligible***

Position Title: Maintenance Worker ***Benefits Eligible***
Location: Area 2 at Wakefield Park, 8116 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003
Hours: Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Salary: Starting at $15.14 per hours. *Benefits eligible.

Overview: This position reports to Area 2 at Wakefield Park daily and is dispatched to work locations throughout the county. Under the supervision of the maintenance crew chief, participates in a variety of unskilled tasks asso-ciated with mowing and grounds/park maintenance. Duties will include, but are not limited to: trash removal, re-stroom cleaning, completing minor repairs to park facilities, playground equipment, picnic areas, walkways, trails, fencing, signs, dugouts, player benches, and other amenities. A valid motor vehicle driver's license is required. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Maintenance Worker – Forestry ***Benefits Eligible***

Position Title: Maintenance Worker – Forestry 
Location: 4501 Brookfield Corporate Drive, Chantilly, Virginia. 
Hours: Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm.
Salary: Starting at $15.30 per hour. 
Overview: The Forestry Maintenance Worker Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tree maintenance; removes diseased, dead, or undesirable trees from parkland and other designated County-owned property. Duties include chipping brush, assist aerial lift operators and felling operations, and operate all forestry-related equipment.  Assist with all site safety requirements. Maintain and document all equipment including chainsaws, chippers, trucks, and aerial lifts. Saw chain sharpening, grease, and lube all equipment per manufacturer and/or supervisor instructions, keep all equipment clean and well-maintained.

Duties Include: 

  • Crew support including, job site clean-up, brush chipping, chainsaw use.
  • Compliance with industry safety standards (ANSI Z-133)
  • Participation in weekly and scheduled safety meetings.
  • Assists with general crew duties including shop, equipment, and tool maintenance.
  • Active participation in training on the job and in house.
  • Must be a team player, willing to learn and able to share in all required job duties.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • One year of experience in ground and building maintenance. 
  • Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a G.E.D. issued by a state Department of Education.  
  • Must be physically able to life 50 pounds.  
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time standing, walking, and ability to traverse rough and uneven terrain to inspect remote park areas.  
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in natural areas or parks, use of forestry equipment such as chainsaws, chippers and pruning tools.

Part-time CDL Driver

Position Title: Part-time CDL Driver 
Location: Fairfax County, Virginia. 
Hours: This is a part-time position with a varying schedule. 
Salary: $25.00 per hour. 

Overview: Drives Showmobile, a commercial class A towed mobile stage vehicle weighing more than 26,001 pounds, to the scheduled outdoor events throughout Fairfax County and surrounding jurisdictions. Ensures proper equipment is available and loaded on vehicles. Drives support vehicles as needed. Serves as equipment supervisor on site, responsible for set-up of mobile stage, equipment, monitoring operations, tear-down and transport to County facility. Provides reports, regularly monitors schedules and supervisor emails and responds to inquiries in a timely manner. Provides recommendations for equipment servicing and purchasing,

Duties Include: 

  • Drives trucks and tows Showmobile to various events throughout the County and surrounding jurisdic-tions.  Arrives at warehouse on time for scheduled events. Conducts pre-trip safety inspection. Loads equipment from warehouse onto vehicles as needed prior to events. Purchases or arranges for ice and bot-tled water for onstage performers to be transported with Showmobile. Deploys mobile stage in accord-ance with SOPs and site directions.  Sets up stage, extensions, sound and light equipment, generators, tents, tables, chairs and displays as required for event.  Monitors Showmobile throughout event. Collects equipment and returns vehicles and equipment to storage area following events. Fuels vehicles and equipment as needed following SOPs.
  • Performs routine safety inspection on Showmobile and vehicles prior to each event. Coordinates periodic preventive vehicle maintenance such as checking of fluid levels and tire pressure. Completes first line maintenance repairs on vehicles and a variety of support equipment, including oil changes, checking fluid, filters, troubleshooting, belts, fuses, leaks, jump starting, and fueling. Compiles detailed report of in-operable equipment or safety concerns and provides to Showmobile Coordinator. Makes recommenda-tions on servicing and purchasing new equipment. Schedules and conveys vehicles to annual safety and emission inspections. Transports vehicles to County maintenance facilities for repairs and maintenance as needed.  Provides routine maintenance for support equipment, including generators. Maintains and uses County-issued cell phone according to policy.
  • Monitors and responds to supervisor emails and telephone calls in a timely manner.  Tracks and submits hours worked to Showmobile Coordinator. Submits receipts for approved purchases according to policy.  Complies with required testing and standards for CDL drivers, maintains current status. Submits incident reports, accident reports, and damage reports as required. Monitors event calendar for changes.  
  • Directs work of Showmobile Workers on event site. Coordinates with Showmobile Coordinator for weather cancellations or delay decisions. Serves as on-site liaison with performing groups and rental organizations.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Ability to lift and move items in excess of 50 pounds, such as chairs, tables, sound equipment, generators, portable stage and lighting equipment.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • DRIVERS LICENSE
  • CDL CLASS A

Note: This position may not exceed 900 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are not eligible for benefits and are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Maintenance Worker - Part-time Benefits Eligible

Position Title: Maintenance Worker
Location: Area 5, 4501 Brookfield Corporate Drive, Chantilly, VA. 20151
Hours: Required weekend, evening, and holiday scheduling for tournaments. Starting in March to November consisting of 32 to 40 hours per week
Salary: Starting at $16.49 per hour, benefits eligible*

Overview: Participates in the work of an assigned Athletic Crew, under the direct supervision of the Crew chief. The Maintenance Worker participates in a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks relating to athletic fields, grounds maintenance and facility repairs. Performs maintenance on park facilities e.g., athletic fields, sport courts, picnic areas, playgrounds, trails, restrooms, parking lots, signs, fencing, etc. Duties include mowing, snow removal, and other grounds maintenance tasks. Performs trash removal, synthetic fields grooming, light construction, minor repairs, and painting of facilities as necessary. Operates infield groomers, utility vehicles, mowers, and other equipment. Uses battery-operated equipment such as trimmer, blower, and chainsaw. Informs supervisor of condi-tions requiring special attention. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Performs related duties as required. Subject to tournament scheduling to include required weekend, evening, and holiday work. Positions are subject to transfer to other maintenance operation locations.
