Inclusion Coordinator 

This position will supervise the operations of the leisure coach requests within the Access & Inclusion Branch of Park Services.  Customers with varying ability levels and ages can request a leisure coach to support him/her in participating in FCPA programs as independently as possible. These programs can take place in our recreation centers, lakefronts, nature centers, parks, or golf courses in Fairfax County.  The responsibilities include the following: onsite supervision of leisure coaches, including facilitation of trainings and meetings; program enhancement, process improvements, positive behavior strategies, and quality assurance; filling in the absence of the leisure coach; and managing incoming requests and effectively communicating with parents and Park Authority site staff.  

Hours: 30/week including day, evening, and weekend hours, benefits eligible

Pay Range: $12 to $19 per hour (Based on qualifications and experience)

Locations: vary across Fairfax County 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum 2 year of work experience serving customers with disabilities
  • Working towards an undergraduate degree in a related field (recreation, sped, education, APA/APE, TR)
  • Experience facilitating trainings and meetings 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Possess a swim instructor or lifeguard certification through an accredited agency 
  • CPR and first aid certified 
  • Supervisory Experience
  • Extensive customer service experience
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (recreation, sped, education, APA/APE, TR)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to deal effectively with citizen inquiries and questions
  • Driver’s license recommended

Note: This position is scheduled to work a minimum of 1,040 hours and no more than a maximum of 1,560 hours in a calendar year. This position is eligible to receive limited benefits, including Medical/Vision/Dental Insurance Coverage, Flexible Spending Program, and Deferred Compensation.

Inclusion Specialists support on-site instructors and staff, while encouraging the customer’s participation and skills towards independence.  They will work with customers and staff to provide positive behavior strategies and interventions, develop and implement accommodations, and communicate effectively with parents.  Must have an active driver’s license and personal transportation to get to and from designated work locations every day.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • At least 6 months experience working with youth with disabilities. 
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have an active driver’s license and personal transportation to get to and from designated work locations every day.  
  • Agree to a Criminal Background Check (fingerprint) and a Central Registry Check completed by Child Protective Services (CPS).
  • Have or be willing to obtain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Have NEVER been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor related to abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other barrier crimes as listed on the Sworn Disclosure Statement of the Criminal Record Check.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • At least 1 year experience working with youth with disabilities.
  • Experience writing, evaluating, and implementing accommodation plans for customers with disabilities.

Position Title: Adapted Aquatics Coordinator
Hours: 30/week Wednesdays-Sundays including day and evening hours, benefits eligible
Pay Range:  $13.85-$23.09/hour (Based on qualifications and experience)
Locations: Herrity Building and 9 recreation centers 

Overview: This position will manage the operations of our Adapted Aquatic Program within the Access & Inclusion Branch of Park Services. This is our largest program serving over 1,000 customers with varying ability levels and ages. These classes take place at 8 of our recreation centers in Fairfax County.  The responsibilities include the following: onsite supervision of instructors and volunteers, including facilitation of trainings and meetings; program enhancement, process improvements, and quality assurance; teaching classes in the absence of the instructor; and managing waitlists and effectively communicating with parents and Park Authority site staff.  This position will also work closely with the Aquatics Team, including recreation center aquatics directors for planning classes and identifying expansion of adapted classes.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience serving customers with disabilities
  • Minimum 1 year of prior swim instructor experience, lifeguard experience, or extensive swimming background
  • Experience facilitating trainings and meetings 

Preferred Qualifications:
