Seasonal Position Descriptions

Position Title: Patriot Park North, Manager on Duty (MOD)
Location: 5425 Willow Springs School Road, Fairfax VA 22030 
Hours: Core Hours: Friday 5:00-11:00pm, Saturday 7:00am-11:00pm, Sunday 7:00am -11:00pm. Occasional Hours: Monday - Thursday 5:00-11:00pm
Salary: Starting at $15.40, depending on experience. – No benefits

Overview: Act as onsite staff during FCPA diamond sports tournaments. 

Duties Include:     

  • Ensures the safe and effective operation of the park. Early shift opens the administrative side of the park, preparing it for Tournament Organizers. Closing shift closes and secures the park at the end of each day.
  • Works with Site maintenance staff, providing communication and feedback with Tournament organizers.
  • Ensures Park is well maintained and kept in safe conditions.
  • May perform routine maintenance and custodial tasks to include sanitizing high touch surface areas, emp-tying trash cans, and cleaning restrooms and other areas.
  • Provides excellent customer service, greets Tournament Organizers, assists customers in resolving issues or concerns.
  • Performs administrative work as needed.
  • Takes initiative to increase one's knowledge of the park operations, its facilities, programs, services, and resources.
  • Serves as the primary contact point for Tournament Organizers. Provides verbal and written information and directions relating to the facility.
  • Stays up to date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
  • Note’s safety/security and maintenance concerns, addresses them where feasible, and reports to supervisor using appropriate methods and recordkeeping.
  • Responds on behalf of the Park Authority to potential and actual emergency situations occurring on site while on duty.
  • Completes special projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Agree to a Criminal Background Check (fingerprint)
  • Have or willing to obtain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform general maintenance and custodial work.
  • Must be personable, punctual, dependable, and self-motivated.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Extensive customer service experience.
  • Experience dealing effectively with emergencies and other difficult situations.

Position Title: Safety Analyst Assistant (Safety Analyst I) 
Location: Herrity Building; 12055 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA. 22035 
Hours: This is a year-round part-time position averaging 30 hours per week. 
Salary: $30.00 - $40.00
 

Benefits: Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay. This position cannot exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year.

Overview: The Safety Analyst Assistant supports the Park Authority Safety Manager to ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health laws and regulations; and performs related work as required. Assists with DriveCam administration, claims management processes, maintaining safety calendars and databases and tracking and reporting related to safety training administration. Responsible for the maintenance of the Safety Office SharePoint page and updating safety documents for agency use. Provides ad hoc reporting as needed.
 

Duties Include: 

  • DriveCam Administration: The incumbent will complete an initial evaluation of DriveCam events, identifying events of note that will require further action by the safety office. Track individual driver and site performance metrics, making recommendations for safety office intervention to address negative trends or improper driving behaviors. Compile and evaluate monthly KPIs and submit reports and recommendations to the Safety Manager. Schedule, prepare and present data to the DriveCam Safety Committee.
  • Safety Information Management: The incumbent will support the maintenance of safety databases, including the Audit findings tracker, AIMS asset management database, workplace injuries and illnesses for 300 log reporting, citizen injury claim databases, property loss and behavior incident report databases, and CAPRA accreditation evidence documents. Ensures databases are kept up to date on a regular schedule and produces reports as needed. Assists with maintaining the Safety Office intranet page.
  • Safety Training Administration: The incumbent will assist with the coordination of the FCPA Employee Safe-ty Training program, including required annual OSHA trainings, annual equipment training and competent person certifications, and tracking agency safety training compliance. Coordinates with third-party safety training providers and maintains training records and vendor payments.
  • Claims management: The incumbent will support agency staff in submitting claims and assisting in the in-take and processing of property loss and employee and citizen injury claims. Reviews injury and incident reports, supports division staff with required documentation, record management, tracking of claims progress, and claims database management and reporting.
  • Safety Program Calendar Administration: The incumbent will proactively manage all aspects of the Annual Safety Office Calendar, including maintaining the Safety Audit Calendar, DriveCam Committee Meeting Calendar, CPR training Calendar, division safety training calendar, joint public safety and FCPA meetings, and additional miscellaneous calendar items. Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Sedentary with walking and lifting less than 25 pounds.
  • Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in safety sciences, industri-al hygiene, safety management, loss prevention or closely related field.
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • One or more years of occupational safety experience.  Including workplace safety program administration and/or implementation
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Strong database management skills

Position Title: Senior Call Center Operator
Location: Herrity Building: 12055 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax VA 22035
Hours: 8:45 am – 4:15 pm, 26-30 hours per week, Monday thru Friday. Occasional flexible workdays required
Salary: $17.00 per hour, benefits eligible*
 

Overview: Join the Park Authority’s team as a Senior Call Center Operator. In this role, you will perform a variety of duties as the agency’s initial point of contact for the public.
 

Duties:

  • Serves as backup for answering the divisions must answer customer service line.
  • Receives calls regarding scholarships, classes, camps, trips, and tours offered through the Parktakes Magazine.
  • Registers, cancels, and transfers programs for customers.
  • Processes registration requests by phone, mail, walk-ins and fax.
  • Receives and processes online scholarship requests.
  • Creates new member accounts and searches for current accounts using Rec Dynamics software.
  • Assists in scheduling activities for adults and children that function at varying levels.
  • Answers Rec Center Membership and pass questions, assist with customer account password resets, account maintenance, scholarship verification and approvals, questions regarding Rec Center operations and hours, explanations of amenities at sites, camping questions, fee assistance, ticketing assistance, picnic questions and assist with walk in customers.
  • Representative will also respond to any customer inquiries about services as well as handle and resolve complaints.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for processing employee pass and class requests as well as scheduling and training employees.
  • Individual should be knowledgeable of department policies.
  • Additional Duties may be assigned as needed.
     

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus at least two years of experience providing customer service in a related field

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills with strong problem solving, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Data entry accuracy, proficiency using Microsoft Office and Rec Dynamics Point of Sale software.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Korean, or Vietnamese.
     

Note: *This position is scheduled to work a minimum 1,040 hours and no more than a maximum of 1,560 hours in a calendar year. This position is eligible to receive limited benefits, including: Medical/Vision/Dental Insurance Coverage, Flexible Spending Program, and Deferred Compensation.

  • Performs a variety of duties and functions as the agency's initial contact to the public.
  • Receives calls regarding classes, camps, trips and tours offered through the Parktakes magazine.
  • Registers, cancels and transfers programs for customers.
  • Processes registration requests by phone, mail, and fax, creates new member accounts and searches for current accounts using Rec Dynamics software.
  • Assists in scheduling activities for adults and children that function at varying levels.
  • Representative will also respond to any customer inquiries about services as well as handle and re-solve complaints.
  • Individual should be knowledgeable of all department policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus at least one year of experience providing customer service in a related field.

Position Title: Roving Park Interpreter
Location: Work will require travel to various Fairfax County Park Authority sites/schools. Occasionally attend outreach events and staff a booth as a representative of FCPA and interact with the public to inform them of FCPA resources and programs.
Hours: Part-time schedule. 15-30 hours per week.
Salary: $18-$20 per hour

Overview: The Roving Park Interpreter will be responsible for teaching children Environmental Educa-tion and historical programs. Rovers work with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and the general public. Position is under the general direction of the Outreach senior interpreter and the specific pro-gram directors at work sites. Some program research, planning, and development may be required. 

 

Duties: 

  • Roving Park Interpreters (Rovers) teach a wide variety of education programs.
  • Main duties include Meaningful Watershed Education Experience (MWEE)  for 7th grade FCPS.
  • Other duties include 4th grade MWEE offered at various elementary schools which focuses on invasive plants or 9th grade experiences about tree identification.
  • Rovers will also lead programs, teach camps, work events and other activities with scout groups and the general public.
  • Uniforms and name tags provided.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have some course work in nature/history, education, interpretation, or outdoor recreation. These would be beneficial, but are not required.
  • Applicants should have the ability to work with all age groups.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Be able to walk long distances over various types of terrain and stand for long periods of time.
