Position Title: Personal Trainer 

Location: Multiple locations in Fairfax County, Va.

Hours: 1-19 hours per week; varied schedule to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Salary: Starting at $34.50 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.

Overview: To develop safe and effective program design, instruction and implementation of exercise and fitness programs to clients based on industry standards.  Motivate and coach individuals/groups by designing and delivering personalized fitness plans.

Duties Include:

  • Design, plan, adapt and implement a safe and effective workout program addressing individual’s assessment and goals.
  • Promote and market classes and programs to clients and to the general public.
  • Adapt exercise prescription to the individual need of participants.
  • Update and maintain certifications as required.
  • Respond responsibly to emergency situations; reports any unusual problems or events to supervisor and maintain records as required.
  • Inspect facility and equipment for safety hazards, deficiencies and cleanliness.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including client records, time sheets, training availability requests and client evaluations.
  • Sets up, operate and break down materials as needed.
  • Assist with conduct of department special events.
  • Establishes an environment that promotes the enjoyment of physical activity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Current Personal Training Certification that meets Standard Operating Policy criteria.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Complete a criminal background check.
  • Complete all mandatory county trainings.
  • Ability to engage in physical activity.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Ability to operate fitness equipment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • College degree and two years related experience
  • Two professional references.
  • Continuing education experience in specialty, rehabilitation, and wellness areas.

Necessary Special Requirements: 

  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

  • Promotes and markets classes and programs to the general public.
  • Adapts exercise prescription to the individual need of participants.
  • Updates and maintains certifications as required.
  • Responds responsibly to emergency situations; reports any unusual problems or events to supervisor, and maintains records as required.
  • Inspects facility and equipment for safety hazards, deficiencies, and cleanliness.
  • Completes administrative tasks, including attendance records, teaching availability requests, and participant evaluations.
  • Assists with set-up, operation, and breakdown of classes.
  • Assists with conduct of department special events.
  • Establishes an environment that promotes the enjoyment of physical activity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sixteen years old or older.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current Group Exercise Instructor certification.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to engage in physical activity.
  • Ability to operate fitness equipment.
  • Ability to perform CPR and first aid.

Hours: 1-19 hours per week; varied schedule to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Salary: Starting at $33.33 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.

Overview: To lead safe and effective Pilates Reformer classes to participants.  Work involves responsibility for class design, planning, and conduct, as well as maintenance of fitness class equipment. To develop safe and effective program design, instruction, and implementation of Private Pilates Reformer exercise programs to client based on industry standards.

Duties Include:

  • Design, plan, adapt and implement a safe and effective workout program addressing individual’s assessment and goals using Pilates Reformer equipment.
  • Promote and market classes and programs to clients and to the general public.
  • Update and maintain certifications as required.
  • Respond responsibly to emergency situations; reports any unusual problems or events to supervisor and maintain records as required.
  • Inspect facility and equipment for safety hazards, deficiencies, and cleanliness.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including client records, time sheets, training availability requests and client evaluations.
  • Sets up, operate, and break down materials as needed.
  • Establishes an environment that promotes the enjoyment of physical activity.

Hours: 1-19 hours per week; varied schedule to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Salary: Starting at $27.96-$32.36 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.

Overview: To lead safe and effective TRX Suspension Training classes to participants.  Work involves responsibility for class design, planning, and conduct, as well as maintenance of fitness class equipment. To develop safe and effective program design, instruction, and implementation of Private TRX Suspension Training exercise programs to clients based on industry standards.

Duties Include:

  • Design, plan, adapt and implement a safe and effective workout program addressing individual’s assessment and goals using TRX Suspension Training equipment.
  • Promote and market classes and programs to clients and to the general public.
  • Update and maintain certifications as required.
  • Respond responsibly to emergency situations; reports any unusual problems or events to supervisor and maintain records as required.
  • Inspect facility and equipment for safety hazards, deficiencies, and cleanliness.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including client records, time sheets, training availability requests and client evaluations.
  • Sets up, operate, and break down materials as needed.
  • Establishes an environment that promotes the enjoyment of physical activity.

Position Title: Tai Chi Group Fitness Instructor

  • Oakmont Rec Center, 3201 Jermantown Rd, Fairfax VA, 22124 

Hours: 2-19 hours per week; varied schedule to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
Salary: Starting at $29.09 per hour, depending on experience and certifications 

Overview: Are you passionate about mindful movement and building community through fitness? Join the Fairfax County Park Authority as a Tai Chi Group Fitness Instructor at Oakmont Rec Center!
 
This established class has a consistent, engaged group of participants who are eager to continue their morning Tai Chi practice, and we are looking for the right instructor to lead the way. 

Duties: 
Plan and lead safe, effective and engaging Tai Chi fitness classes, with a focus on beginner-level instruction 
Provide proper modifications and progressions to accommodate a range of fitness and mobility levels
Monitor participants’ form and provide appropriate feedback to ensure safety and technique 
Set up and clean up class space before and after each session
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • The current nationally recognized Group Fitness certification that meets Standard Operating Policy criteria, including any specialized certifications for specific formats.
  • Current nationally recognized Tai Chi certification that meets Standard Operating Policy criteria, including any specialized certifications for specific formats.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • Complete a criminal background check.
  • Complete all mandatory county trainings.
  • Ability to engage in physical activity.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.

Position Title: TRX Suspension Training Instructor
Location: Audrey Moore Rec Center, 8100 Braddock Rd, Annandale, VA 22003
Hours: 1-19 hours per week; varied schedule to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holi-days. 
Salary: Starting at $27.96-$32.36 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.

Overview: To lead safe and effective TRX Suspension Training classes to participants.  Work involves responsibility for class design, planning, and conduct, as well as maintenance of fitness class equip-ment. To develop safe and effective program design, instruction, and implementation of Private TRX Suspension Training exercise programs to clients based on industry standards.

Duties:

  • Design, plan, adapt and implement a safe and effective workout program addressing individual’s as-sessment and goals using TRX Suspension Training equipment.
  • Promote and market classes and programs to clients and to the general public.
  • Update and maintain certifications as required.
  • Respond responsibly to emergency situations; reports any unusual problems or events to supervisor and maintain records as required.
  • Inspect facility and equipment for safety hazards, deficiencies, and cleanliness.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including client records, time sheets, training availability requests and client evaluations.
  • Set up, operate, and break down materials as needed.
  • Establishes an environment that promotes the enjoyment of physical activity.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Current TRX Suspension Training certification that meets Standard Operating Policy criteria.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • Complete a criminal background check.
  • Complete all mandatory county trainings.
  • Ability to engage in physical activity.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Ability to operate TRX Suspension Training equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • College degree and two years related experience.
  • Two professional references.
  • Personal training or group fitness instructor certification.

Overview: Oakmont Rec Center is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Oncology Exercise Specialist to lead a new fitness program designed for individuals who are currently undergoing cancer treatment or are in post-treatment recovery. This role will focus on developing safe, effective exercise programming tailored to this population, selecting appropriate movements, modifications, and progression plans that support strength, mobility, endurance, and overall well-being while prioritizing safety and individual needs. As this is a new class offering for our center, the instructor will play a key role in establishing program standards and structure. Ideal candidates will have specialized training or certification in cancer/exercise fitness, strong communication and teaching skills, and experience or comfort working with individuals who have or have had cancer.

In addition to beginner instruction, there are opportunities to teach intermediate and advanced students as needed, but beginner classes are required. The instructor will be responsible for designing clear and accessible class plans, demonstrating proper form, and providing individualized modifications to accommodate varying levels of comfort, strength, and flexibility.
