Job Opportunities

Position Title: Adapted Aquatics Instructor 
Location: Various Rec Centers in Fairfax County 

Immediate openings available at: 

  • Franconia Rec Center (Alexandria)
    • Classes on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Hours: The schedule for this position vary based on class times. Primarily evening and weekend hours. 
Salary: Starts at $23 per hour (increases based upon experience and certifications)
Position Type: This is a part-time year-round position. 

Overview: Adapted Aquatics Instructors provide a special service to our customers, teaching students of all ages and abilities swimming and water safety skills. We offer several unique programs including learn to swim, aquatic exercise, and Special Olympics Swim Team training classes for children, teens, and adults with disabilities. Orientation to our program and shadowing a tenured instructor is re-quired prior to teaching independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work evening and weekends
  • Must be at least 16 years old 
  • Minimum 1 year of prior teaching experience or extensive swimming background

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Possess a swim instructor certification through an accredited agency or demonstrate extensive swim teaching experience
  • 2 years of work experience serving customers with disabilities
  • On the job training will be provided

  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.  The position is also responsible for attending staff meetings and completing County trainings periodically.  

Note: This position may not exceed 900 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are not eligible for benefits and are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Cub Run Rec Center in Chantilly is actively hiring instructors to instruct classes for preschool art, movement and science; gymnastics, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and pickleball.
