Martin Luther King, Jr. PoolCool off this summer at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Pool in the Gum Spring Community of Alexandria.

Operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), the pool is located in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park near Richmond Highway (Route 1) at 8115 Fordson Road. It features two slides and a children’s wading pool – and admission is free for individuals!

The pool will open Memorial Day weekend and be open on Saturday and Sunday until Fairfax County Public Schools dismiss for the summer.  The pool will be closed on Tuesdays during the summer break and return to weekends only once Fairfax County Public Schools resumes classes in the fall.  The last weekend the pool will be open is Labor Day weekend.

There is a daily fee of $3 for each participant and chaperone for commercial or nonprofit groups, including day care centers, martial arts camps, church groups and others. Space is limited for groups and must be coordinated in advance with the aquatic supervisor or assistant at Mt. Vernon RECenter at 703-768-3224. The fee does not apply to families picnicking in the park. The park features a playground, an open field and a picnic area, which can be reserved for a fee online at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park Reservable Picnic Area

In observance of Water Safety Month, the Park Authority reminds you to stay safe around water. Children under the age of 10 must be directly supervised by a guardian 16 years or older in the water or from the deck at all times. Non-swimmers are required to remain in water that does not come over their shoulders. A limited number of life jackets are available for non-swimmers. Guests are advised not to eat 30 minutes prior to entering the pool.

The facility has a maximum capacity of 140 patrons so be advised that on busy days when we reach capacity, there will be a wait.
