Facility Updates
- Villa D’Este Park: The City of Fairfax will begin sanitary sewer rehabilitation work in mid-September that will impact Villa D’Este Park. Community members can expect heavy equipment and construction activity in the park, with some additional work taking place along Cardinal Road. The project is expected to be completed in October. - Rec Center Pools: We'll be temporarily closing our Rec Center pools and spas for deep system cleaning and maintenance to give them a little glow up. Thank you for your patience and remember to call the Rec Center directly before visiting:
- Spring Hill Rec Center Pool and Spa Closed: Saturday, Aug. 16 to Monday, Sept. 1
- Audrey Moore Rec Center Pool Closed: Monday, Aug. 18 to Sunday, Sept. 14
- Cub Run Rec Center Competition Pool Closed: Monday, Aug. 18 to Friday, Sept. 12
- George Washington Rec Center Pool and Spa Closed: Wednesday, Sept. 3 to Saturday, Sept. 13
- Franconia Rec Center: The Franconia Rec Center will undergo facility improvements. The renovations, scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 18, will focus on upgrading key heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems serving the fitness center, racquetball courts and pool. Learn more.
- Burke Lake Park: The miniature train is out of service until further notice.
- Justice Park: The tennis courts are closed for renovations. Weather permitting, construction is expected to be completed by mid-September. Learn more.
- Ashgrove Historic Park: The trail at Ashgrove Historic Site Park connecting East and West sides of Old Courthouse Spring Branch is currently closed due to a stream restoration project. Weather pending, construction is expected to conclude in Winter 2025. Learn more.
- Laurel Hill: The historic Barrel Bridge is undergoing repairs. The Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail will remain open, with one side accessible during the work. The entrance road to the Central Green will also remain open. Weather depending, construction is expected to conclude in September.
- Green Spring Gardens: A team from the National Park Service will replace the historic house steps at Green Spring Gardens. There may be brief periods when the sidewalk in front of the historic house will be blocked.
- Folly Lick Trail: A critical sanitary sewer line is currently being replaced along Folly Lick Trail between Herndon Parkway and Young Avenue. The pedestrian bridge connecting Young Ave. to Folly Lick Stream Valley Trail is open and operational to the public, however intermittent bridge closures are necessary to complete the current restoration phase of the project. Weather pending, the project will be demobilized in mid-September. Learn more.
- Colvin Run Mill Millers House: The ADA access is currently out of service and undergoing repairs.
