Park Alerts: Park Status Notices

Winter Weather Alert!

Fairfax County parks, rec centers, golf courses, nature centers, and historic sites will be closed due to the winter weather on Monday, February 23. This includes classes scheduled at any Park Authority site or facility.

Facility Updates

  • Franconia Rec Center: Franconia Rec Center Natatorium (pool) will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Wednesday, Feb. 25 for spa repair work.  
  • Frying Pan Farm Park: The Carousel is closed for safety repairs.
  • Sully Historic Site: Restoration and repair work is underway on Sully’s historic outbuildings. While the site remains open, access to certain buildings may be limited at times. For the most up-to-date information, please call 703-437-1794.
  • Lake Accotink Park: The Large Shelter restrooms at Lake Accotink Park will be temporarily closed due to renovations. The restrooms located at the Mclaren Sargent Shelter will be made available until the renovations are complete. Please note that the closest parking lot with ADA accessible parking spaces to the Mclaren Sargent Shelter, is located at 5660 Heming Ave. Springfield, VA 22151.
  • Scott’s Run Nature Preserve: Beginning on Monday, Feb. 16, Swill be closed for an urgent sewer project to renew and rehabilitate the Scott's Run Siphon wastewater facility. The work is expected to take approximately three months to complete, depending on weather conditions. Updates regarding project progress and any changes to the timeline will be available online at the Scott’s Run Siphon Rehabilitation project webpage.
  • Mount Vernon Rec Center: The fitness center is experiencing fluctuating temperatures due to a mechanical issue. A repair part has been ordered. Please be prepared with layers and stay hydrated during your workout. Thank you for your understanding!
  • Bull Neck Stream Valley: A section of the trail in the Bull Neck Stream Valley, located behind 1223 and 1225 Duchess Drive, Mclean, VA 22102, has been closed due to safety concerns. We welcome you to use the Trail Buddy app to identify an alternative route.
  • Reston North Park: The playground at Reston Park is closed for ongoing renovations to replace aging equipment and improve accessibility. Due to weather delays, construction is now expected to conclude by the end of February. During construction, the parking lot will also be used for construction vehicles and materials. Please follow all posted signs.
  • Pimmit Hill Park: The bridge at Pimmit Hill Park at the end of Storm Dr. will remain closed until further notice for repairs.
  • Pimmit Run: Construction for the Pimmit Run Trunk Sewer Improvement project is set to begin on or shortly after Oct. 20, 2025, and is anticipated to be completed by Sept. 5, 2026. This critical infrastructure upgrade will enhance sanitary sewer capacity to support future development. Portions of the trails/walking paths along Pimmit Run will be closed for public use during construction as required to maintain the safety of the work area. Please follow all posted signage. In the case of inclement weather, we will monitor conditions and provide status updates accordingly. Check the Golf Course Operating Status web page for updates. For additional questions please contact the courses directly.

Outdoor amenities may close early or be put on hold due to weather conditions. If amenities are closed for the day, notification will be provided above. Generally, temporary holds or delays in service are not posted. It is always best to call the park in advance when inclement weather has occurred or is forecasted to occur.

Information pertaining to athletic field status can be found on the Athletic Fields Status website or by calling the Field Status hotline at 703-324-5264.

The website and hotline are updated Monday through Friday by 3 p.m. Leagues and game officials are responsible for determining playability of fields on weekends and County holidays. Should they close fields or cancel games or practices, they are responsible for communicating that information to teams and participants.

In the event classes, programs and camps are cancelled, registered participants will be notified via email of the cancellation as quickly as possible. If you have questions whether a class, program or camp is cancelled due to inclement weather, please contact the site directly for information.
