Facility Updates

  • Cub Run Rec Center: Please expect extended wait times to access the indoor leisure pool due to the Spring Break holiday through April 30. We encourage you to call the Center (703-817-9407) directly before visiting for the most current status.
  • Green Spring Gardens: April 21-May 24: A team from the National Park Service will replace the historic house steps at Green Spring Gardens. There may be brief periods when the sidewalk in front of the historic house will be blocked.
  • Folly Lick Trail: A critical sanitary sewer line is currently being replaced along Folly Lick Trail between Herndon Parkway and Young Avenue. The pedestrian bridge connecting Young Ave. to Folly Lick Stream Valley Trail will be temporarily closed until the construction activities are complete. Weather pending, work is expected to conclude by early summer. Learn more.
  • Sully Historic Site: Part of the Cain's Branch Trail is closed because of downed trees.
  • Scott's Run Nature Preserve: Scott's Run Nature Preserve is now open. However, Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) contractors will continue to perform cleaning work in the Scott's Run Nature Preserve and Carderock National Park but both parks will remain accessible to the public. Residents should be mindful of ongoing work and follow all posted signage.
  • Colvin Run Mill Millers House: The ADA access is currently out of service and undergoing repairs.
  • Lake Fairfax Park: The Large Shelter, Multi-Purpose Fields and Crickets Fields will be closed through mid-December for a stream restoration project. Cross County and Rails to River Trail users will be detoured though the front entrance of the park during this closure.
  • Mount Vernon Rec Center: Facility is now closed for renovation. Learn more about the project.

Additional Resources

In the case of inclement weather, we will monitor conditions and provide status updates accordingly. Check the Golf Course Operating Status web page for updates. For additional questions please contact the courses directly.

Outdoor amenities may close early or be put on hold due to weather conditions. If amenities are closed for the day, notification will be provided above. Generally, temporary holds or delays in service are not posted. It is always best to call the park in advance when inclement weather has occurred or is forecasted to occur.

Information pertaining to athletic field status can be found on the Athletic Fields Status website or by calling the Field Status hotline at 703-324-5264.

The website and hotline are updated Monday through Friday by 3 p.m. Leagues and game officials are responsible for determining playability of fields on weekends and County holidays. Should they close fields or cancel games or practices, they are responsible for communicating that information to teams and participants.

In the event classes, programs and camps are cancelled, registered participants will be notified via email of the cancellation as quickly as possible. If you have questions whether a class, program or camp is cancelled due to inclement weather, please contact the site directly for information.

Weather cancellations or changes are posted on the Trips and Tours Hotline, 703-324-TOUR(8687).
