Announcement

FCPA has paused the concept design process at this time as program-wide bond cashflow impacts on the project are being evaluated. Once the bond cashflow situation is determined to be adequate then the concept design phase will resume including a public meeting.

Audrey Moore Rec Center, approximately 73,000 square feet, is located at 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA in the Braddock Supervisory District. The Audrey Moore Rec Center is the oldest recreation center in the Park Authority’s portfolio and many of the systems have been extended beyond their useful life.

The rec center consists of a 50-meter indoor pool, fitness center, gymnasium, locker rooms with showers and sauna, multipurpose rooms, racquetball courts, pottery studio, and a Senior Center operated by the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS).

Park Authority staff in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) Building Design and Construction Division is working to advance the project design. The architectural/engineering firm, DLR Group, was selected for the design and construction administration services including renovation and expansion of the facility. The staff kickoff meeting was held in July 2021 for Phase I of the design services consisting of existing conditions assessment, space program and conceptual design study.

A community survey was conducted in Fall 2021 to gather input from the rec center’s users and county residents on the type of amenities/improvements they would like to see in the renovated rec center. An open comment period for the survey findings was available from February 9, 2022 to March 2, 2022. The community meeting previously planned for the Summer of 2022, has been postponed until funding evaluation is complete.

Partial funding was allocated to the project from the 2016 and 2020 Park Bonds.  Additional funding necessary to fully fund this project is anticipated in future Park Bonds.
