Our parks remain open during the federal government shutdown. But please be aware: We're currently experiencing higher-than-usual attendance. Parking at many locations may be limited or at capacity this weekend. We encourage you to plan ahead, expect delays and allow extra time for your visit. We appreciate your patience as we work hard to ensure the safety of and high-quality experiences for all patrons at our facilities.
Facility Updates
- Annandale and Herndon Farmers Markets: The Annandale and Herndon Farmers Markets will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 30 due to the forecasted inclement weather. This was the last day of the season for both markets—thank you for your support!
- Royal Lake Park: The Royal Lake Bridge Replacement Project is scheduled to begin Nov. 3 and is expected to last 4 weeks, weather depending. Construction access will be from Lakeside Park and the nearby boat ramp and access road. Temporary trail closures may occur for public safety; please obey all posted signs.
- Pimmit Run: Construction for the Pimmit Run Trunk Sewer Improvement project is set to begin on or shortly after October 20, 2025, and is anticipated to be completed by September 5, 2026. This critical infrastructure upgrade will enhance sanitary sewer capacity to support future development. Portions of the trails/walking paths along Pimmit Run will be closed for public use during construction as required to maintain the safety of the work area. Please follow all posted signage. - Willow Pond Park: The basketball court will be closed starting Oct. 8 for renovations, including goal upgrades, crack repairs, resurfacing, and coloring, with work expected to finish by early November.
- Kendale Woods Park: Tennis-only courts are now open.
- Riverbend Park: We're currently experiencing higher-than-usual attendance on weekends. Parking may be limited or temporarily closed due to capacity this weekend. Please plan ahead and expect delays. We appreciate your patience.
- Villa D’Este Park: The City of Fairfax will begin sanitary sewer rehabilitation work in mid-September that will impact Villa D’Este Park. Community members can expect heavy equipment and construction activity in the park, with some additional work taking place along Cardinal Road. The project is expected to be completed in October. - Franconia Rec Center:
- Spa: Closed until further notice
- Main lobby: Tiles are being replaced
- All other areas of the building are open
- Ashgrove Historic Park: The trail at Ashgrove Historic Site Park connecting East and West sides of Old Courthouse Spring Branch is currently closed due to a stream restoration project. Weather pending, construction is expected to conclude in Winter 2025. Learn more.
- Colvin Run Mill Millers House: The ADA access is currently out of service and undergoing repairs.
