Playground Renovations Coming Soon Countywide
The Fairfax County Park Authority will begin renovating playgrounds at seven parks throughout the county this fall, including updated, accessible play spaces and exciting new amenities. Construction is expected to begin as early as September 2026, with projects continuing into 2027. Playgrounds will be closed for the duration of each renovation project. Summer Camps Hot Weather Update

Facility Updates
- Royal Lake Park: Construction is underway for several trail improvements. Please follow all posted signage. Weather permitting, work will be complete by the fall of 2026. Learn more about the project.
- Hidden Pond Park: Beginning August 24, the bridge connecting Orange Hunt Estates and Hidden Pond will be closed for repairs. Weather permitting, the bridge will reopen on by August 28.
- Providence Rec Center: Providence Rec Center will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon on Monday, Aug. 24 for maintenance.
- Arrowbrook Park: The wetlands boardwalk is currently closed due to unsafe structural issues that require repairs.
- Jefferson District Park: Beginning Monday, Aug. 24, tennis courts #1-8 will undergo renovations. During construction, the entire tennis complex, as well as the playground, will be closed. The basketball courts will remain open and available for play. In addition, contractors will utilize the majority of the lower parking lot near the golf maintenance shop for staging and construction activities. Visitors may experience increased construction traffic and noise and should use caution when visiting the park. Weather permitting, the project is expected to take approximately 10 weeks to complete. - Franconia Rec Center: The spa is closed until further notice.
- Westgrove Park: Construction on accessibility improvements at the off-leash dog area on Monday, August 3. Work is expected to be completed by early September. During construction, the northern half of the dog park will be temporarily closed to allow for the installation of new accessible amenities. The remainder of the dog park will remain open for public use.
- South Run Rec Center: Projects including cleaning, painting, general maintenance and upgrades to flooring, lighting and accessibility will result in the following:
- Pool and Spa Closure: Saturday, Aug. 15 to Friday, Sept. 11
- Full Building Closure: Saturday, Aug. 22 to Friday, Sept. 11
- Pools and Spas Closures: Pools and spas at the following Rec Centers will be closed as regular deep system cleaning and maintenance is conducted:
- Cub Run (Indoor Water Park and Spa): Monday, Aug. 24-Monday, Sept. 7
- George Washington Rec Center: Sunday, Aug. 16 to Friday, Sept. 4
- Oakmont Rec Center: Saturday, Aug. 29-Tuesday, Sept. 8
- Clemyjontri Park: The Clemyjontri Train is undergoing repairs and will be unavailable for the week of August 10.
- Franconia Park: The bridge along Chessie’s Trail is temporarily closed due to damage sustained by a fallen tree. Updates will be provided as they become available.
- Frying Pan Farm Park: The carousel sustained irreparable damage during the January 2026 winter storm and has been removed from the park.
- Sully Historic Site: Restoration and repair work is underway on Sully’s historic outbuildings. While the site remains open, access to certain buildings may be limited at times. For the most up-to-date information, please call 703-437-1794.
- Difficult Run Stream Valley Park: A section of the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail that runs under the Dulles Toll Road will be closed beginning May 21 until Fall 2026 while repairs are made to the Dulles Toll Road Bridge. Please follow all posted signage and utilize the Trail Buddy App to find alternative routes to explore during the closure. A map of the trail closure is available here.
- Belle Haven Park: The park will be closed from May 4, 2026 through May 2028 during construction for a wastewater upgrade project.
- Green Spring Gardens: The ADA lift at the Historic House is currently out of operation until further notice. ADA access remains available to the lower room of the Historic House.
- Willow Woods Park: The Willow Woods Park bridge behind Canterbury Woods Elementary is closed until further notice. The trail bridge on the asphalt trail in Willow Woods Park connecting the end of Rosedale Lane and the school campus was severely damage by a fallen tree. Alternate pedestrian access from Rosedale Lane to Canterbury Woods Elementary School is along Ponderosa Drive and Nero Street sidewalks.
- Glenn Hills Park: The Playground at Glenn Hills Park is closed until further notice.
- Bull Neck Stream Valley: A section of the trail in the Bull Neck Stream Valley, located behind 1223 and 1225 Duchess Drive, Mclean, VA 22102, has been closed due to safety concerns. We welcome you to use the Trail Buddy app to identify an alternative route.
- Pimmit View Park: The bridge at Pimmit View Park at the end of Storm Dr. will remain closed until further notice for repairs.
- Pimmit Run: Construction for the Pimmit Run Trunk Sewer Improvement project is set to begin on or shortly after Oct. 20, 2025, and is anticipated to be completed by Sept. 5, 2026. This critical infrastructure upgrade will enhance sanitary sewer capacity to support future development. Portions of the trails/walking paths along Pimmit Run will be closed for public use during construction as required to maintain the safety of the work area. Please follow all posted signage.
