Park Alerts: Park Status Notices

Alert:

Our parks remain open during the federal government shutdown. But please be aware: We're currently experiencing higher-than-usual attendance. Parking at many locations may be limited or at capacity this weekend. We encourage you to plan ahead, expect delays and allow extra time for your visit. We appreciate your patience as we work hard to ensure the safety of and high-quality experiences for all patrons at our facilities.

Facility Updates

  • Willow Pond Park: The basketball court will be closed starting Oct. 8 for renovations, including goal upgrades, crack repairs, resurfacing, and coloring, with work expected to finish by early November.
  • Frying Pan Farm Park: The country store and amusements will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Thursday, Oct. 9. Please check park alerts before visiting. 
  • Kendale Woods Park: Tennis-only courts are now open.
  • Riverbend Park: We're currently experiencing higher-than-usual attendance on weekends. Parking may be limited or temporarily closed due to capacity this weekend. Please plan ahead and expect delays. We appreciate your patience.
  • Clemyjontri Park: Carousel rides will be closed starting at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19 for a planned event. The carousel will resume its regular schedule (9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) on Oct. 25-26 (final weekend of operation for 2025).
  • Mount Vernon Rec Center: Mount Vernon Rec Center’s Blue Rink will be closed for repairs starting at noon on Sunday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 26. The rink will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27. Learn More
  • Chalet Woods Park: American Tennis Courts (ATC) will begin repairing cracks, coloring, and lining the tennis courts (with tennis lines only, no pickleball lines) starting Wednesday, Sept. 24. The courts will be closed for at least two weeks, with an expected completion date of around Oct. 14, weather permitting. Please check Park Alerts before visiting. 
  • Villa D’Este Park: The City of Fairfax will begin sanitary sewer rehabilitation work in mid-September that will impact Villa D’Este Park. Community members can expect heavy equipment and construction activity in the park, with some additional work taking place along Cardinal Road. The project is expected to be completed in October.   • Franconia Rec Center: The Franconia Rec Center will undergo facility improvements. The renovations, scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 18, will focus on upgrading key heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems serving the fitness center, racquetball courts and pool. Spa & Fitness Room Closed. Learn more.
  • Ashgrove Historic Park: The trail at Ashgrove Historic Site Park connecting East and West sides of Old Courthouse Spring Branch is currently closed due to a stream restoration project. Weather pending, construction is expected to conclude in Winter 2025. Learn more
  • Laurel Hill: The historic Barrel Bridge is undergoing repairs. The Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail will remain open, with one side accessible during the work. The entrance road to the Central Green will also remain open. Weather depending, construction is expected to conclude in September.
  • Colvin Run Mill Millers House: The ADA access is currently out of service and undergoing repairs.

In the case of inclement weather, we will monitor conditions and provide status updates accordingly. Check the Golf Course Operating Status web page for updates. For additional questions please contact the courses directly.

Outdoor amenities may close early or be put on hold due to weather conditions. If amenities are closed for the day, notification will be provided above. Generally, temporary holds or delays in service are not posted. It is always best to call the park in advance when inclement weather has occurred or is forecasted to occur.

Information pertaining to athletic field status can be found on the Athletic Fields Status website or by calling the Field Status hotline at 703-324-5264.

The website and hotline are updated Monday through Friday by 3 p.m. Leagues and game officials are responsible for determining playability of fields on weekends and County holidays. Should they close fields or cancel games or practices, they are responsible for communicating that information to teams and participants.

In the event classes, programs and camps are cancelled, registered participants will be notified via email of the cancellation as quickly as possible. If you have questions whether a class, program or camp is cancelled due to inclement weather, please contact the site directly for information.
