We’re celebrating 70 years of excellence in Fairfax County parks – including the great team of Fairfax County Park Authority staff and volunteers who take care of our parks and help you enjoy them. From opening our Farmers Markets to maintaining fields to creating safe park programs, it takes hundreds of people – and a lot of creativity - to operate our 427 parks in this new world. Gloria Medina and Patricia Greenberg

With their excellent organizational skills, Invasive Management Area ecologists Gloria Medina and Patricia Greenberg ensure that 60 IMA site leaders have the supplies and technical guidance they need to manage removal of invasive plants in Fairfax County parks. One of the leaders calls them “ecologists extraordinaire” who do a “phenomenal job.” We wholeheartedly agree! #WeAreFCPA

Supervisor of the Year - Brian Laws

There’s a reason Brian Laws is the Park Authority’s Supervisor of the Year. Whether he’s building holiday decorations or dressing up in a costume – we can always count on him to ensure that our visitors and employees enjoy their time in our parks. During the pandemic, Brian has gone out of his way to ensure that visitors and employees had a safe experience. From filling in staffing holes to instituting health and safety measures to transporting holiday decor, he is always on the go. If you ask Brian how he’s doing, he’ll likely say he’s “Livin’ the dream.” He embodies that in how he approaches his work -- wearing a smile on his face and keeping everyone else laughing, even from behind our masks! #WeAreFCPA

FCPA Mask Making Team - Jen Bruan and Cheryl Stokes

When COVID-19 closed many of our facilities in spring 2020, we knew we would need to find thousands of masks for our employees in order to safely re-open. With masks in short supply at the time, FCPA employees Jen Braun, Cheryl Stokes and Karen Roos led a team of FCPA employees who worked together to sew thousands of masks for parks employees as well as other essential employees in Fairfax County. The entire team was recently recognized as FCPA’s Team of the Year. As we celebrate 70 years of excellence in the parks, we are grateful for a dedicated and passionate workforce willing to use all of their talents to improve your Fairfax County parks. #WeAreFCPA
