Seasonal Position Descriptions

Position Title: Adult Education Coordinator/Instructor
Location: Green Spring Gardens; 4603 Green Spring Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22312
Schedule: Must have scheduling flexibility to allow for weekday and weekend times as well as occasional evenings. Average 25 hours weekly.
Salary: $16.00 per hour.

Overview: Green Spring Gardens seeks a charismatic team member for immediate hire to teach and schedule horticulture and cultural history programs for adults. This position oversees scheduling, staffing, or finding staff for public and private programs. Applicants should have strong oral communication skills with the ability to present and teach to groups of varying, age, number, and cultural background. This team member will be responsible for planning programs, contracting outside presenters, developing and leading education programs, scheduling volunteers and assisting with events. Additional duties include administrative, volunteer management and customer service.

Required Qualifications: Interest and knowledge base in horticulture, gardening, history, and/or educational programming with excellent oral and written communications skills. Enthusiasm for working with people and developing program content. Ability to present and interpret programs to diverse groups. Some experience in customer service and administrative support. Successful candidate must be able to acquire a thorough knowledge of Recreation Dynamics point of sale system, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, audio visual and standard office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in horticulture, gardening, history, and/or education or a related field.
  • Experience with volunteer management.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Multi-lingual is a plus.

Note: *This position is scheduled to work a minimum 1,040 hours and no more than a maximum of 1,560 hours in a calendar year. This position is eligible to receive limited benefits, including Medical/Vision/Dental Insurance Coverage, Flexible Spending Program, and Deferred Compensation.

Position Title: Patriot Park North, Manager on Duty (MOD)
Location: 5425 Willow Springs School Road, Fairfax VA 22030 
Hours: Core Hours: Friday 5:00-11:00pm, Saturday 7:00am-11:00pm, Sunday 7:00am -11:00pm. Occasional Hours: Monday - Thursday 5:00-11:00pm

Overview: Act as onsite staff during FCPA diamond sports tournaments. 

Duties Include:     

  • Ensures the safe and effective operation of the park. Early shift opens the administrative side of the park, preparing it for Tournament Organizers. Closing shift closes and secures the park at the end of each day.
  • Works with Site maintenance staff, providing communication and feedback with Tournament organizers.
  • Ensures Park is well maintained and kept in safe conditions.
  • May perform routine maintenance and custodial tasks to include sanitizing high touch surface areas, emp-tying trash cans, and cleaning restrooms and other areas.
  • Provides excellent customer service, greets Tournament Organizers, assists customers in resolving issues or concerns.
  • Performs administrative work as needed.
  • Takes initiative to increase one's knowledge of the park operations, its facilities, programs, services, and resources.
  • Serves as the primary contact point for Tournament Organizers. Provides verbal and written information and directions relating to the facility.
  • Stays up to date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
  • Note’s safety/security and maintenance concerns, addresses them where feasible, and reports to supervisor using appropriate methods and recordkeeping.
  • Responds on behalf of the Park Authority to potential and actual emergency situations occurring on site while on duty.
  • Completes special projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Agree to a Criminal Background Check (fingerprint) 
  • Have or willing to obtain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. 
  • Be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform general maintenance and custodial work. 
  • Must be personable, punctual, dependable, and self-motivated.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Supervisory experience. 
  • Extensive customer service experience. 
  • Experience dealing effectively with emergencies and other difficult situations.

Position Title: Batting Cage Attendant
Pay Rate: $13 - $19.78 per hour depending on experience. 
Location: Braddock Park at 13441 Braddock Rd, Clifton, VA 20124

Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Operations Specialist, the Batting Cage Attendant provides an excellent guest experience by ensuring the safety of guests, maintaining a clean and attractive facility/grounds, and interacts with guests using courteous and effective communication to provide information and resolve problems as necessary throughout their assigned shift.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sells tokens, refreshments, and handouts rental equipment to guests.   
  • Ensures participant experience by enforcing facility program rules and procedures.
  • Sets up and cleans up equipment at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Ensures facilities and equipment are left in a secure condition by closing and locking all gates, windows, and doors.
  • Assist in maintenance and cleaning of the playing and surrounding area. 
  • Maintains accurate records and provides information for various reports.
  • Answers telephone calls and provides general information regarding fees, hours, etc.
  • Must follow all FCPA and County rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Previous experience with batting cages preferred but not required. 

Hours: Vary and will include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions, in English. 
  • Knowledge of hand tools and standard repair tasks. 
  • Ability to interact with the public professionally and display a positive image. 
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks.

Position Title: Batting Cage Manager
Pay Rate: $$15.00 - $23.00 per hour depending on experience. 
Location: The Batting Cage is located within Braddock Park at 13441 Braddock Rd, Clifton, VA 20124

Position Summary: The Batting Cage Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Batting Cages at Braddock Park. Opportunities to work with FCPA’s Tournaments and sports tourism are also available to this position.

Essential Functions

  • Sells tokens, refreshments and handouts rental equipment to patrons.   
  • Hires, trains and supervises Batting Cage Attendants.
  • Performs basic preventative maintenance on batting cage equipment
  • Purchases supplies and equipment.
  • Performs weekly inventory of resale items

  • Reconciles and generates deposits
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Title: Administrative Assistant II
Location: 4030 Hummer Rd, Annandale, VA 22003
Hours: Monday - Friday; 9am to 2:00pm
Salary: Starting at $19.05 per hour

Overview: Under supervision and with guidance and/or specific instruction, responsible for a variety of technical and clerical functions as the operation’s initial point of contact; performs administrative tasks in support of an Area Park Management shop. Responsible for end product of work and independent application of knowledge of stand-ard office methods and procedures to perform assignments involving a variety of detailed operations in a related sequence or series.

Duties Include: 

  • Clerical/Technical: Provides overall general clerical support to site operations. Assists with time en-try/corrections for staff using the County’s time and attendance reporting system as needed. Monitors dai-ly unassigned work demands and creates work task packets by using Assess Integrated Management Sys-tem (AIMS). Collects and enters data from work task packets into the AIMS corporate system. Schedules contractor visits, coordinates invoices, and creates purchase requests. Compiles and maintains daily and weekly totals, reports, financial statements, and reconciles statements. Updates and maintains site budget spreadsheets. Prepares variety of standard disbursement forms for routing and approval. Establishes, re-vises, and maintains accounting documents and files. Maintains and creates personnel forms and data, by setting up personnel files and printing and distributing personnel documents. Ensures office equipment, in-cluding fax and printers are stocked up with paper and ink. 
  • Purchasing: Responsible for performing inquiries in purchasing systems. Inventories, orders, receivers and shelves routine and office supplies as needed. Assists with procurement card documentation for the operation. Tasks include maintaining, and completing procurement card logs, filing and scanning hard copies of procurement card logs, verifying funding codes, resolving incorrect receipts with ven-dors and staff, and submitting logs to the purchasing section. Reviews invoices and packing slips to ensure shipment and resolves shipment discrepancies as needed. Assists with purchase requisitions as required for items not purchased on procurement card. Maintains an electronic spreadsheet of all out-standing purchasing documents. Resolves all missing/incorrect 
  • Communication: Serves as the community point of contact for the shop. Writes, proofs, and distributes general documents and correspondence. Answers phone calls, checks voice messages and distributes calls to the appropriate staff by referring calls and taking messages. Provides standard information in response to phone or in-person inquiries. Distributes employment and labor related notices and documents such as safety posters and notices to central locations. Attends meetings and takes notes as required. 


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and or one year of experience providing administrative support. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of administrative office procedures. 
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite Software, including Excel and SharePoint. 
  • Proficiency in typing. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with all levels of management, vendors, and customers.

Hours:  2-3 days per week between the hours of 8:45am-4:15pm
Salary:  Starting at $12.92 per hour

Overview: Performs a variety of duties and functions as the agency's initial contact with the public. Receives calls regarding classes, camps, trips and tours offered through the Partakes magazine. Registers, cancels and transfers programs for customers. Processes registration requests by phone, mail, and fax, creates new member accounts and searches for current accounts using Rec Dynamics software. Assists in scheduling activities for adults and children that function at varying levels. The representative will also respond to any customer inquiries about services as well as handle and resolve complaints. Individual should be knowledgeable of all department policies.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education. 
  • At least one year of experience providing customer service in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Excellent customer service skills with strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Data entry accuracy, proficiency using Microsoft Office and Rec Dynamics software. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.  
  • Bilingual in English and: Spanish, Korean, or Vietnamese.
