Children Grow and Learn with the Park Authority

Fairfax County Park Authority provides safe and inclusive environments for young children to take part in creative play and hands-on education that help them develop new skills while forming friendships and having fun. Explore the wealth of opportunities for early childhood development below.

Preschool

Did you know the Park Authority operates fully licensed preschools? Children enrolled learn new skills, socialize, and grow both intellectually and emotionally:

Kids Play Preschool, hosted at Franconia Rec Center and Stone Mansion in Alexandria
Spring Hill Preschool, hosted at Spring Hill Rec Center in McLean

Preschools engage children ages 3 to 5* in age-appropriate activities focused on art, science, outdoor play, music, circle time and more. Programs range from two to five days a week and promote independence, enhance school-readiness and foster positive self-image.

*Franconia Rec Center location is specially licensed to enroll children as young as 2.5 years.

Childcare

Looking for short-term childcare when coming to a Rec Center? Oak Marr Rec Center** provides childcare services (and a new facility is scheduled to open at Cub Run Rec Center). Childcare services are offered to people participating in classes, fitness opportunities and other activities at the Rec Center.

Staff engage children in games, crafts and activities that get them moving, playing and making new friends. Space is on a first-come, first-served basis. Childcare staff are certified in CPR and First Aid and have passed a background check.

**Maximum time allowed is 90 minutes.

Looking for enrichment opportunities for preschool aged children? The Park Authority offers single programs for preschoolers in a wide variety of topics, from nature to history and dance to golf. These programs satisfy learning that fosters children’s creativity and cognitive development.
