The Fairfax County Park Authority is excited to announce the start of Phase 2 of renovations at Mount Vernon Woods Park, bringing a brand-new skate park to the community. Construction will begin in September 2025 and is anticipated to be completed this winter.

"Mount Vernon Woods Park has already become a vibrant community hub, and the addition of a skate park will make it an even more dynamic destination for residents of all ages," FCPA Executive Director Jai Cole said. "We’re grateful to the community members who shared their input and helped us shape this exciting new feature."

The new skate park was designed with valuable input from the community, following a public comment period in fall 2024. Resident feedback helped shape the design to ensure the new space reflects the needs and interests of local skaters and families.

Phase 1 of the Mount Vernon Woods Park renovation, completed in early 2025, introduced a wide range of new amenities, including a playground, fitness area, multisport court, soccer field, picnic shelter and parking lot. Phase 2 builds on these improvements, creating even more opportunities for recreation and connection.

Spohn Ranch, a nationally recognized skate park design and construction firm, will lead the Phase 2 project. During construction, residents may notice occasional construction traffic along Fielding Street.
