Alert:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Pool is a community gem located in the Gum Spring Community of Alexandria. The pool is currently closed for the season. Please check back in spring 2026 for an updated schedule.
Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) operates this pool located in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park near Richmond Highway (Route 1) at 8115 Fordson Road. It features two slides and a children’s wading pool — and admission is free for all county residents (with proof of residency)!
The park features a playground, an open field and a picnic area, which can be reserved for a fee online at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park Reservable Picnic Area.
Children under the age of 10 must be directly supervised by a guardian 16 years or older in the water or from the deck at all times. Non-swimmers are required to remain in water that does not come over their shoulders. A limited number of life jackets are available for non-swimmers. Guests are advised not to eat 30 minutes prior to entering the pool.
The community and baby pools will open Memorial Day Weekend and be open on Saturday and Sunday until Fairfax County Public Schools dismiss for the summer. The pool will be closed on Tuesdays during the summer break and return to weekends only once Fairfax County Public Schools resumes classes in the fall. The last weekend the pool will be open is Labor Day weekend.
