Official Season Opener: NEW Splash Pad

Celebrate the opening of the new splash pad at Martin Luther King Jr. Pool (8115 Fordson Road, Alexandria):

  • Noon-3 p.m., Saturday, June 13

Come out to:

  • Boogie down in the splash pad dance party
  • Enjoy FREE sweet treats, 1-3 p.m.  
  • Join a Get Set, Get W.E.T. Water Safety session
  • Participate in a water aerobics demonstration
  • Take home some giveaways

Please note that space in the pool is limited and admission for this event is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Entry is free for Fairfax County residents (please bring proof of residency). Out of county residents may purchase a $50 annual pass online or at any of the Park Authority’s Rec Center locations (please bring proof of purchase with you to enter).

Start summer off with a splash at Martin Luther King, Jr. Pool! This neighborhood oasis opens Memorial Day weekend. Come out to cool down at the pool and brand new splash pad noon to 7 p.m. whenever the pool is open, weather permitting:

  • Open weekends/holidays: May 23-June 14 and August 24-September 7
  • Open daily (closed on Tuesdays): June 20-August 23

Located in the heart of Alexandria’s Gum Spring Community, Martin Luther King, Jr. Pool welcomes the neighborhood to swim, splash and play all summer long.

This community gem brings families, friends and neighbors together as a seasonal oasis. Gather together at shaded tables or in chairs poolside while children enjoy the pool’s slide.

NEW! Fairfax County Park Authority unveils an exciting, all-access splash pad for all ages and abilities to enjoy while staying cool.  

Admission to the pool is free for all Fairfax County residents with proof of residency. Out of county residents may purchase a $50 annual pass online or at any of the Rec Center locations (please bring proof of purchase with you to enter).

The pool is located in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park (8115 Fordson Road, Alexandria). The park features a playground, open space, softball field, tennis courts and picnic area. Make reservations for the picnic area for a fee online at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park Reservable Picnic Area.

Pool Safety

Children under the age of 10 must be directly supervised by a guardian 16 years or older in the water or from the deck at all times. Non-swimmers are required to remain in water that does not come over their shoulders. A limited number of life jackets are available for non-swimmers. Guests are advised not to eat 30 minutes prior to entering the pool.

For your safety, guests will be cleared from the facility in the event of audible thunder, visible lightening, or unforeseen events. The facility will remain closed for 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder or observation of lightning. The facility may delay opening or close early due to inclement weather.
