Fairfax County parks offer a variety of settings for filming, including lakes, rivers, farmland, wetlands, forests, fields, and diverse architecture ranging from colonial to modern styles. You'll also find recreational facilities like golf courses, tennis courts, pools, and spray parks.
If you're a professional videographer, you need a commercial use permit to film. This ensures your park area is reserved and prevents scheduling conflicts with other events or groups.
How to Apply for a Permit
- Processing Time: Give us at least five business days to process your application and fees.
- Fill Out the Application: Complete the "Commercial Use of Parkland Permit Application" and send it by email to FCPAParkPermits@Fairfaxcounty.gov or by fax to 703-653-7021.
- Approval and Payment: Once your application is reviewed and approved, we’ll notify you of the fees. Payment must be made before the permit is issued.
- Paying Fees: You can mail a check or pay by credit card during business hours. Note: Don’t email credit card details for security reasons.
- Receiving Your Permit: Once we receive your payment and Certificate of Insurance (COI), we’ll email you confirmation. This email serves as your permit – bring it with you on the day of filming.
- Business Hours: Filming can only occur during the park’s regular business hours, as staff are unavailable outside these times.
Fees
- Standard Rate: $350 per day (or part of a day).
- Nonprofit Rate: $100 per day.
- Staff Fee: If a park staff member is required during filming, it costs $50 per hour per person.
- Area Rental: Any applicable rental fees for certain park areas.
- Additional Fees: Other charges may apply as determined by FCPA.
