We offer marriage licenses at a satellite location on the second Tuesday of the month.
Marriage licenses are issued by the Clerk of the Circuit Court. There are no residency requirements to obtain a marriage license in Virginia. Couples may obtain a marriage license from any circuit court in Virginia. Once the license is issued, there is no waiting period and no blood test is required. The marriage license is valid for 60 calendar days and the marriage must take place in Virginia.

The fee is $30.00 payable by cash or credit card (Visa or MasterCard only with a 4% processing fee).
Requirements ⇒
Both applicants must appear together in person at the Fairfax County Courthouse and be at least 18 years of age. The couple needs to bring the following to the Courthouse: (i) Online Marriage License Pre-Application confirmation document, if they used our Online Pre-Application; (ii) $30 cash, Visa or MasterCard (there is a 4% processing fee on all credit card transactions); (iii) a valid photo id (driver’s license, passport or military identification card); (iv) social security number for each applicant (they do not need to bring their social security card); and (v) the full names of each applicant’s parents (including full middle names) as they appear on their birth certificates. (If a parent’s maiden name differs from their current name, the applicant must provide that parent’s full maiden name.) To speed up the process, applicants may complete the Online Marriage License Pre-Application. After submitting the application, the applicants have sixty days to visit the courthouse to obtain their license.
Fairfax County does not provide "Justice of the Peace" services. Civil marriage celebrants are available by appointment at the location of your choosing. Please see the Marriage Celebrants section of our website for more information.

Pursuant to §20-48 of the 1950 Virginia Code, as amended, the minimum age at which a person may marry is 18.
Online Marriage License Pre-Application ⇒
To speed up the process of obtaining your marriage license, you may complete the Online Marriage License Pre-Application. Upon completion you will receive a confirmation document. The applicants have sixty days to obtain their license at the Fairfax County Courthouse. Both applicants must appear together in-person at the Fairfax County Courthouse and be at least 18 years of age.
