A way for families to work together to resolve conflicts with the assistance of a State Certified Mediator
- Participation in the Mediation Program is ordered for appropriate Custody, Visitation and Support cases. You need to have a petition for custody, visitation or support pending before the court before you can be referred to mediation. Please call 703.246.3040 to schedule and intake appointment.
- Mediated agreements, when approved and signed by a judge, becomes enforceable court orders
- If an agreement is reached - the parties do not need to attend the scheduled court hearing
- If an agreement is NOT reached - the parties MUST attend the scheduled hearing and a judge decides the issues
Some cases are not appropriate for Mediation, including those with active Protective Orders. These cases will be scheduled for a court hearing and not referred to Mediation.
