WHAT VICTIM SERVICES PROVIDES

Victim Services was established to ensure that the rights of crime victims are protected. These free services are available to help victims cope with the trauma and the aftermath of victimization, and to lessen the revictimization often associated with participation in the criminal justice process. Our dedicated staff members provide support and assistance to crime victims as they navigate through all stages of the court process and work to recover from the effects of a crime.  All victims are treated with dignity, respect, and sensitivity as they are provided with the following:

  • Information about the criminal justice process
  • Accompanying the victim to court
  • Notice of court dates, defendant status, and appeals
  • Confidentiality and emotional support to victims and their families
  • Securing interpreter services
  • Assistance filing Victim Impact Statements, Statement of Financial Loss, Virginia Victims Fund applications
  • Providing information on restitution, resources, and referrals
