VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES

Farmers Market Volunteers support local farmers, food producers, and community health by creating a fun and safe farmers market experience for customers and vendors.

Farmers Market Managers manage the day-to-day operations of the market by setting up market supplies, explaining market rules, monitoring safety, answering questions from vendors and customers, and assisting with market promotion and vendor selection. Two Market Managers are needed at each of the 10 FCPA Farmers Markets. Managers can volunteer on a consistent weekly basis or create their own flexible schedule.

Market Volunteers assist the Market Manager with opening and closing the market, setting up and breaking down market supplies, explaining market rules, and answering questions from customers and vendors. Volunteers can attend on a consistent weekly basis or create their own flexible schedule.

SNAP Volunteers oversee the SNAP program at the market. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) connects citizens in need to fresh, local foods. Volunteers run the SNAP booths where customers charge their EBT cards to redeem tokens to spend at market. Volunteers process SNAP/EBT transactions, keep accurate records to ensure proper vendor reimbursements, and answer questions about the SNAP Match Program. Volunteers should be available 5-6 hours per week during the market season.

“I enjoy volunteering at the SNAP booth and making a difference in my community.”
– Bob, Volunteer Market Manager at the Mount Vernon Farmers Market
