Cultural Resource Management Plan

An arrowhead

The Fairfax County Park Authority Board has approved a new Cultural Resource Management Plan (CRMP) to coordinate agency-wide efforts to achieve the cultural resource preservation mission of the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). Approval came at the Board meeting on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.

The 2006 plan had 11 topical chapters.  Over the years, staff and section reorganizations have broken out particular topic areas and responsibilities that required a new look at the plan.  Additionally, changes in requirements for reaccreditation by the American Alliance of Museums made a new, simplified approach desirable.
In 2017, the Cultural Resource Management Plan was revamped to provide a more streamlined approach to archaeology and historic preservation.  The new plan reflects recent structural changes that established two cooperative branches; the Heritage Conservation Branch and the Archaeology and Collections Branch. The revised plan sets forth specific branch responsibilities and coordinates agency-wide efforts. Public comment on the revision was accepted through November 17, 2017.  For more information, contact Dr. Elizabeth Crowell at Elizabeth.Crowell@fairfaxcounty.gov or 703-246-5758.
