From Lake  Fairfax Park the closest metro stop is the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station  (1862 Wiehle Avenue, Reston, VA 20190). Directions to the nearest Metro stop  and maps of the local area are available at the park office. (Please note,  public transportation is not available from the campgrounds.)

  • You may bring your own firewood but because of several wood-boring bugs that threaten local trees, we ask that you only bring firewood that is from the local D.C. area. We also ask that you burn all your firewood, or give it to a camper still in the campground.
  • During winter months, snow and icy conditions may temporarily prevent passage on park roads. It is advisable to remain in the campground until staff can treat the roads or be prepared with a four-wheel drive vehicle. Watch the weather closely and be fully prepared.
  • During summer months, be prepared for very hot and humid conditions. Stay hydrated, locate a shady setting for cool down purposes, and wear sunblock.
  • The spring and fall months are the premier time to camp in the Washington, DC area. The capital celebrates with the Cherry Blossom Festival during the spring. Plan ahead and make a reservation as this is one of our busiest seasons.
