Lakefront Maintenance

Position: Lakefront Maintenance
Location: Burke Lake Park
Status: G (Part-Time, maximum 900 hours per year).
Hours: Spring, 24 – 32 hours/week; Summer, Up to 40 hours a week; Fall, 24-32 hours/week.
Salary: $13.00-$17.00/hour, depending on skills and experience.

Description: 

  • Perform maintenance and custodial tasks including: 
  • Empty indoor and outdoor trash cans, collect ground trash, and assist patrons with controlling trash in picnic areas.
  • Assist in facilities maintenance including cleaning and stocking public restrooms and bath houses.
  • Safely operate grounds maintenance machinery including mowers, string trimmers, edgers, and other hand tools. 
  • Remove and dispose of trash and debris in the lake on a regular basis.
  • Remove weeds on the sidewalks, curbs and around buildings and parking lots.
  • Assist in trails maintenance as needed including trail clearing and repair.
  • Greet patrons and provide customer-focused informational services regarding facilities, directions, park rules and regulations, safety information, etc.
  • Identify and report to park management equipment or facilities needing repair.
  • Assist with special event set-up, operation and breakdown.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability to perform medium to heavy labor outdoors on land and water. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds. Must be able to work alone and with others depending on the nature of assignments, be adaptable, maintain positive interactions with all park staff, volunteers and visitors. CPR/first aid certified or able to obtain certification within 3 months of employment.  

Preferred Qualifications: All of the above plus experience supervising teams of volunteers involved in maintenance or similar work. Must be able to work in conditions ranging from direct sunlight to complete darkness as well as inclement weather ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat. Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to 60 pounds.

Necessary Special Requirements: 

  • All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or religious reasons will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Otherwise, vaccinated employees will complete the attestation online in the first day of employment.
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
