Drop-in interviews will be held at the Burke Lake Park Information Center on July 29-31 and Aug. 5-7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. No appointments are necessary. Come by to explore job opportunities, complete an application and interview on the spot, all in one visit.

Job Opportunities

Position Title: Manager on Duty (MOD) 
Location: Burke Lake Park; 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039
Hours: Spring, Summer, Fall: 24 – 40 hours/week
Salary: $19 to $22 per hour
 

Overview: Looking for a fun and fulfilling seasonal job? Spend your season at Burke Lake Park, one of Fairfax County’s most beautiful outdoor destinations! Burke Lake Park is searching for an eager Manager on Duty to join the team!

Duties: 

  • Work with minimal supervision to ensure the safe and effective operation of the park.
  • Open the park and its facilities, preparing it for staff and visitors. Close and secure the park and all facilities at the end of each day.
  • Check in and check out picnic rentals, permitted events, and conduct routine park checks.
  • Serve as an attendant for any of the facilities in Burke Lake Park
  • Demonstrate safe cash handling operations by operating a point-of-sale machine, preparing cash drawers for cashiers, closing money batches at the end of each shift.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the park, its facilities, programs, and services in all interactions with patrons and staff.
  • Stay up to date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
  • Note safety/security and maintenance concerns, address them as feasible, and report them to the park supervisor or other designated offices as appropriate.
  • Act as lead first responder on behalf of the Park Authority in potential and actual emergency situations occurring on site while on duty.
  • Act as Facility Manager.
  • Complete special projects and tasks assigned. 
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in a professional setting of at least 6 months
  • Experience in customer service equal to at least 6 months 
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in providing safe, clean and attractive grounds and public facilities.
  • Boating experience and certification.
  • Experience dealing effectively with emergencies and other difficult situations.
     

Special Requirements: 

  • Must be able to work in conditions ranging from direct sunlight to complete darkness as well as in-clement weather ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to 60 pounds.

Position Title: Marina Attendant

Hours: Summer: 30-40 hours per week; Spring/Fall: 10-20 hours per week. 
Salary: $16 to $17 per hour

Duties: 

  • Assist in the daily operations of the Burke Lake Marina.
  • Sell, prepare, and maintain rental equipment such as Boats, Motors, Personal Flotation Devices, Fishing Poles and Tackle, etc.
  • Assist boaters in emergency situations
  • Provide quality customer service
  • Provide first aid to patrons in emergency situations.
  • Other tasks or duties to support overall park operations may be assigned. 
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work in conditions ranging from direct sunlight to complete darkness as well as in-clement weather ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Successful completion of Virginia Safe Boating Certification.
  • CPR/first aid certified or able to obtain certification within 3 weeks of employment.  
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • One or more season of experience in public service, parks and recreation, outdoor recreation, or similar field.
  • Cashiering experience.
  • Customer service experience.
  • In addition to fluency in English, ability to converse in Spanish or another language prevalent in the community.

Hours: Part-time/20 hours per week average. Will include mornings, afternoons, and nights 
Salary: $15 to $16 per hour

Duties: 

  • Staff are responsible for handling camping registration, campground site assignments, and camp store resale.
  • Staff are responsible for routine checks of the campground, upkeep, and trash collection.
  • Staff assist patrons with park information and directions. Other responsibilities include cash handling, sales and restocking of camp store items, and facility maintenance. Must be able to repeatedly lift 40 lbs. or more. Additional duties may vary.  
  • Accumulate knowledge of the park, facilities, and relevant subject matter to provide accurate in-formation to the public and to staff.
  • Ensure proper cash handing/cash security and accountability for all equipment and supplies used in the operations.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to deal effectively with citizen inquiries and questions
  • CPR preferred
  • Driver’s license recommended
