Position Title: Campground Attendant 
Location: Burke Lake Park
Hours:  Friday through Sunday mid-April – end of October, Part-time/20 hours per week average. Will include mornings, afternoons, and nights 
Salary: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour 

Overview: Looking for a fun and fulfilling seasonal job this fall? Spend your season at Burke Lake Park, one of Fairfax County’s most beautiful outdoor destinations! Burke Lake Park is searching for an eager Campground Attendant to join the team!

Duties: 

  • Staff are responsible for handling camping registration, campground site assignments, and camp store resale. 
  • Staff are responsible for routine checks of the campground, upkeep, and trash collection. 
  • Staff assist patrons with park information and directions. Other responsibilities include cash handling, sales and restocking of camp store items, and facility maintenance. Must be able to repeatedly lift 40 lbs. or more. Additional duties may vary.  
  • Accumulate knowledge of the park, facilities, and relevant subject matter to provide accurate information to the public and to staff.
  • Ensure proper cash handing/cash security and accountability for all equipment and supplies used in the operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing 
  • Ability to deal effectively with citizen inquiries and questions 
  • CPR preferred 
  • Driver’s license recommended

Position Title: Information center Attendant 
Location: Burke Lake Park
Hours: Spring and Fall: 16-24 hours; Late Summer: 24-36 hours a week
Salary: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour

Duties: 

  • Operation of Point-of-Sale register to sell and rent merchandise, and register customers for classes, events, programs, campsites, and ticketed activities throughout the park.
  • Accumulate advanced knowledge of the park, facilities, and relevant subject matter to provide accurate information to the public and to staff.
  • Ensure proper cash handing/cash security and accountability for all equipment and supplies used in the operations.
  • April through October weekends and holidays will assist with Gate House operations which include verifying customer Fairfax County residency and handling cash/credit card transactions for entrance fees. 
  • Checking campers for reservations or assisting walk-in registration, issues parking passes, campground rules, maps, and other park related information.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Information Office. 
  • Other tasks or duties to support overall park management and operations may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be 16 years or older
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with handling cash and various payment methods as well as working with customers in-person, over the phone or through email.
  • Values clean and organized public areas and work spaces.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.

Position Title: Lakefront Maintenance Worker 
Location: Burke Lake Park
Hours:  Spring, 24 – 32 hours/week; Summer, Up to 40 hours a week; Fall, 24-32 hours/week.
Salary: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience

Duties: 

  • Perform maintenance and custodial tasks including: •Empty indoor and outdoor trash cans, collect ground trash, and assist patrons with controlling trash in picnic areas.
  • Assist in facilities maintenance including cleaning and stocking public restrooms and bath houses.
  • Safely operate grounds maintenance machinery including mowers, string trimmers, edgers, and other hand tools. 
  • Remove and dispose of trash and debris in the lake on a regular basis.
  • Remove weeds on the sidewalks, curbs and around buildings and parking lots.
  • Assist in trails maintenance as needed including trail clearing and repair.
  • Greet patrons and provide customer-focused informational services regarding facilities, directions, park rules and regulations, safety information, etc.
  • Identify and report to park management equipment or facilities needing repair.
  • Assist with special event set-up, operation and breakdown.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform medium-to-heavy labor outdoors on land and water. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds. 
  • Must be able to work alone and with others depending on the nature of assignments, be adaptable, maintain positive interactions with all park staff, volunteers and visitors. 
  • CPR/first aid certified or able to obtain certification within 3 months of employment.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • All of the above plus experience supervising teams of volunteers involved in maintenance or similar work.
  • Must be able to work in conditions ranging from direct sunlight to complete darkness as well as inclement weather ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat. 
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to 60 pounds.

Position Title: Manager on Duty (MOD) 
Location: Burke Lake Park
Hours:  Spring, Summer, Fall: 24 – 40 hours/week
Salary:  $18.50 - $19.50/hours

Duties: 

  • Work with minimal supervision to ensure the safe and effective operation of the park. 
  • Open the park and its facilities, preparing it for staff and visitors. Close and secure the park and all facilities at the end of each day.
  • Check in and check out picnic rentals, permitted events, and conduct routine park checks.
  • Serve as an attendant for any of the facilities in Burke Lake Park
  • Demonstrate safe cash handling operations by operating a point-of-sale machine, preparing cash drawers for cashiers, closing money batches at the end of each shift.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the park, its facilities, programs, and services in all inter-actions with patrons and staff.
  • Stay up to date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
  • Note safety/security and maintenance concerns, address them as feasible, and report them to the park supervisor or other designated offices as appropriate.
  • Act as lead first responder on behalf of the Park Authority in potential and actual emergency situations occurring on site while on duty. 
  • Act as Facility Manager.
  • Complete special projects and tasks assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in a professional setting of at least 6 months 
  • Experience in customer service equal to at least 6 months 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in providing safe, clean and attractive grounds and public facilities. 
  • Boating experience and certification. 
  • Experience dealing effectively with emergencies and other difficult situations.

Duties: 

  • Assist in the daily operations of the Burke Lake Marina.
  • Sell, prepare, and maintain rental equipment such as Boats, Motors, Personal Flotation Devices, Fishing Poles and Tackle, etc.
  • Assist boaters in emergency situations
  • Provide quality customer service 
  • Provide first aid to patrons in emergency situations.
  • Other tasks or duties to support overall park operations may be assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work in conditions ranging from direct sunlight to complete darkness as well as inclement weather ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat. 
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to 50 pounds. 
  • Successful completion of Virginia Safe Boating Certification. 
  • CPR/first aid certified or able to obtain certification within 3 weeks of employment.  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • One or more season of experience in public service, parks and recreation, outdoor recreation, or similar field. 
  • Cashiering experience. 
  • Customer service experience. 
  • In addition to fluency in English, ability to converse in Spanish or another language prevalent in the community.

  • Accumulate knowledge of the miniature golf facility, other park facilities and amenities as well as relevant subject matter to provide accurate information to the public and to staff.

  • Assist in the maintenance of miniature golf course.
