Green Spring Gardens

Inspiration, Information for Gardeners

Green Spring Gardens is a must-visit park, a year-round gold mine of information and inspiration for the home gardener. It's an outdoor classroom, a museum, and a national historic site. Its mission is to connect the community to natural and cultural resources through horticulture, education, and stewardship.
The park has a wooded stream valley with ponds, a naturalistic native plant garden, more than 20 thematic demonstration gardens, a greenhouse, a plant shop, two gift shops, a historic house, and a horticulture reference library. The gardens and educational programs focus on practical landscaping and gardening techniques that are appropriate for the Washington metro area.
Public gardens are special parks with special rules. Please see the "Public Garden Etiquette and Rules" before your visit.
Park grounds are open dawn to dusk.

Sunset Soiree: Woodlands

Spend a magical evening at Green Spring Gardens after hours. Enjoy the gardens at sunset, sip a refreshing mocktail, explore the art exhibit and create something inspired by nature during one of three hands-on workshops.

Date: Saturday, September 12th from 5–7 p.m.

Choose from:

Kokedama
Pressed Fern Art
Forest Incense

Workshop registration includes event admission, a mocktail, guided garden tour and all supplies.

Notice for Weddings, Events, Picnics, and Commercial Photography

Weddings, proposals, special events and large picnics require a paid reservation in advance.
Commercial or professional photography requires a photography permit and a paid reservation. See photography guidelines.
Picnics are allowed, but some rules apply. Picnicking at Green Spring Gardens.
All visitors must follow the garden rules at all times.

Public Gardens are special parks with special rules that differ from the rules in other parks. Please observe these guidelines to keep everyone safe and to avoid damaging the gardens:

No balloons or kites
No balls, flying discs, or sporting equipment
No bicycles or scooter riding on walkways
Stay out of garden beds
Leash dogs and clean up dog waste
Commercial photography requires an FCPA permit. Call 703-642-5173
