Dreaming about your celebration? Our monthly open house makes planning easy. Tour our beautiful vintage and classic facilities, meet our staff and even secure your date on the spot. We have plenty of materials for you to take home. Just drop in—no reservations needed. Open houses are held at the Woodlands Stewardship Education Center or Cabell’s Mill.

Woodlands Stewardship Education Center & Cabell’s Mill

Modern elegance meets natural serenity at the Woodlands Stewardship Education Center, a premier event space tucked inside Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. Built to meet the world’s highest green building standard—the Living Building Challenge—this architecturally striking venue is perfect for weddings, celebrations and gatherings that want to make a beautiful impact.

Ideal for: Weddings, receptions, parties, memorials and meetings

Capacities:

  • Woodlands Multipurpose Room: Seats up to 92 guests under vaulted ceilings with a striking fireplace feature

Parking Lot:

  • 4 ADA spaces (2 on either end of the lot)
  • 3 Bus parking spaces
  • 67 Standard parking spaces

Rental Rates:

  • Friday through Sunday and Holidays
    • $1,200 for four hours, $300 for each additional hour
  • Monday through Thursday
    • $1,000 for four hours, $250 for each additional hour
  • Additional Fees
    • Alcohol Beverage Use Fee: $225

Rental Times:

  • Reservations for the Woodlands Stewardship Education Center are available during the spring and fall. March- May and September though November.  

Available Equipment:

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • Flat screen TV for presentations or slideshows
  • Tables and chairs included with rental

Amenities:

  • Vaulted ceilings and panoramic windows offer an open, naturally lit setting
  • Designed with reclaimed and natural materials to reflect its woodland surroundings
  • Indoor concrete floors and exterior wooden deck for style and function
  • Outdoor natural rock amphitheater—ideal for ceremonies, performances or photos
  • Access the Learning Outdoor Observation Pod (LOOP), a hands-on educational feature for children and families

Reservations:

  • Reservations for the Woodlands Stewardship Education Center must be made at least 60 days in advance.
  • For celebrations of life and memorials within 60 days, please call us at 703-631-0013 (TTY 703-803-3354) so we can work with you directly. 
Start Your Celebration

Step into timeless charm at Cabell’s Mill, a beautifully restored 19th-century gristmill nestled beside Big Rocky Run. With historic architecture, flexible indoor-outdoor space, and scenic views of the stream and surrounding parkland, this venue sets a romantic backdrop for weddings, receptions, parties, and special events.

Ideal for: Weddings, receptions, parties, and meetings

Capacity:

  • Indoor Space: Accommodates up to 135 guests.
  • Outdoor Grounds: Additional space available for tents, lawn games or cocktail setups

Amenities:

  • Historic mill setting with original architectural details and rustic appeal
  • Indoor climate control for comfort year-round
  • Tables and chairs included with rental
  • On-site kitchen facilities for caterers
  • Restrooms available for guests 

Rental Times:

  • Each rental includes four hours; additional time is available for a fee. Please account for setup and cleanup when reserving.
  • Reservations for the Cabells’ Mill are available starting March and ending in November. Winter dates are not available for rental.

Multipurpose Classroom, Pavilion and Campfire

Ideal for: Meetings, workshops, educational programs, and small gatherings

Capacity:

  • Indoor: Up to 30 people

Rental Rates:

  • $65/hr.
  • Two-hour rental minimum
  • Alcohol permitted with Alcohol Beverage Use Application
  • Events must end by 10 p.m.

Amenities:

  • Three 6-foot tables, three 5-foot tables and 30 chairs.
    • o    Arrangeable in classroom, party or auditorium style
  • Refrigerator and sink
  • Access to the nature center's interactive indoor exhibit with live and preserved specimens of local wildlife
  • Access to approximately five miles of park trails
  • Naturalist-led tour of the exhibits or woodland available for an extra fee of $30 (two-week notice needed for staffing)

Ideal for: Small gatherings, picnics and casual events

Capacity:

  • Outdoor: Up to 25 people

Rental Rates:

  • $20/hr. (non-prime: Monday-Thursday)
  • $30/hr. (prime: Friday-Sunday & Holidays)
  • Two-hour rental minimum
  • Alcohol permitted with Alcohol Beverage Use Application
  • Events must end by 10 p.m.

Amenities:

  • Five picnic tables
  • Lighting for evening rentals
  • Experience the nature center's interactive indoor exhibit with live and preserved specimens of local wildlife
  • Easy access to approximately five miles of park trails along streams, around the pond or through meadows

Ideal for: Group gatherings, storytelling and educational programs

Rental Rates:

  • $63 an hour, two-hour rental minimum
  • Alcohol permitted with Alcohol Beverage Use Application
  • Events must end by 10 p.m.

Amenities:

  • Three picnic tables and benches
  • Wood, fire extinguisher and water provided (fire can be set by staff if needed)
  • Experience the nature center's interactive indoor exhibit with live and preserved specimens of local wildlife
