The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a virtual community meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, at 7 p.m., to present updates on the Chesterbrook Road Walkway Project from Maddux Lane to North 41st Street. The project is intended to provide a continuous pedestrian facility along the south side of the roadway from Maddux Lane to 41st Street.

Seven Corners Phasing Study Community Meetings Set for November 2021

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold two virtual community meetings on the Seven Corners Phasing Study on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, at 7 p.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, at 12 p.m. FCDOT staff will provide an update on planned transportation improvements, including bicycle and pedestrian facilities that have been proposed as part of the study, and the public will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the order that these transportation projects will be implemented.

Proposed Safe Streets for All Program to be Discussed at Two Community Meetings in November

The ActiveFairfax Transportation Plan team is developing recommendations for a Fairfax County Safe Streets for All Program, a comprehensive initiative to address systemic transportation safety issues for people walking, biking and using other forms of active transportation. Shirley Gate Road Extension Virtual Public Meeting Set for September 21, 2021

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a virtual design public meeting on the Shirley Gate Road Extension project on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. The project seeks to improve travel time from the Fairfax County Parkway to Shirley Gate Road, and improve bicycle and pedestrian connections to Patriot Park East. Comments will be accepted through Oct. 29, 2021.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a virtual public meeting on proposed striping changes on Telegraph Road between Mission Court and Florence Lane as part of the 2021 paving schedule. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 13, at 7:00 p.m., and comments will be accepted until July 27, 2021.

Jones Branch Connector Receives National Recognition

June 30, 2021

The Jones Branch Connector, a joint effort by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Fairfax County to build a new crossing over the Capital Beltway in Tysons, has been named the 2021 National Project of the Year by the American Society of Highway Engineers.

The annual awards recognize outstanding work completed on transportation projects, including highways, bridges, traffic signals, railroads, public transit and bikeways. Projects are judged on criteria of complexity, innovation, social and economic considerations, safety and aesthetics, and sustainable features.

Fairfax County Seeking Public Feedback on Parking in Tysons, Reston

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is conducting a survey for input on public parking needs and usage in Tysons Urban Center and Reston Transit Station Areas to help plan the County’s Managed Parking program. The survey is available in both English and Spanish and will be available through July 31, 2021.

Fairfax County Closes One Northbound Lane of Tysons Blvd. for Community Recreation - Scheduled to Begin July 14

June 23, 2021

Fairfax County, again this year, will close one northbound lane of Tysons Boulevard for community recreation as the region continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure is scheduled to begin Wed., July 14, 2021 and will give pedestrians and bicyclists access to a .5 mile stretch of road from Westbranch Drive to the pedestrian entrance of Lillian Court at Tysons II (right before International Dr. around the Tysons Galleria area) connecting with bike lanes on both Park Run Drive and Westpark Drive.

Rolling Road VRE Parking Lot Expansion Project Virtual Meeting Set for June 10, 2021

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a virtual meeting on the Rolling Road VRE Parking Lot Expansion project on Thursday, June 10, at 7 p.m. The project seeks to add 38 new parking spaces and will include planned sidewalk, curb and stormwater upgrades. In addition, a representative from the Virginia Railway Express will be at the meeting to discuss the platform expansion project for the Rolling Road VRE station.

Cinder Bed Road Bikeway Virtual Meeting Set for May 10, 2021

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a virtual meeting on the Cinder Bed Road Bikeway project on Monday, May 10, at 7 p.m. The two-mile project will create a commuting options for pedestrians and bicyclists between Newington Road and Barry Road and the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station.

Construction to Begin on Route 28 Widening Project in Centreville in March

Feb. 9, 2021

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will begin construction to widen Route 28 from four to six lanes between the bridge over Bull Run (south of Compton Road) and the interchange at Route 29 in Centreville on or about March 1, 2021. Beginning the week of Feb. 15, the contractor will begin installing advance construction signs and message boards in advance of construction activities.

Seven Corners Transportation Study Virtual Meetings Set for Feb. 3 and 4, 2021

FCDOT will hold two virtual meetings next month to seek public input on planned transportation improvements at the Seven Corners interchange and nearby roads.

  • The meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 7 p.m., will be held in English
  • The meeting on Thursday, Feb. 4, 7 p.m., will be held in Spanish

The goals of the project include enhancing bicycle, pedestrian and transit access and connectivity, while enhancing traffic flow.

Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) continues a series of virtual community meetings on the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. Meetings this month will focus on branding concepts for the Richmond Highway BRT system, including a name, logo, colors, and other elements that will bring the service to life. All these elements will help to create an “identity” for the BRT system, building on existing community features to reflect the future of the corridor.
